Metra TYTO-01 trouble

Ok, I know this sounds crazy! I attempted to install my aftermarket Pioneer head unit and PAC SWI-PS steering wheel control interface last night, replacing my Factory JBL 10 speaker head unit.

I installed the Metra TYTO-01 interface between the pioneer and the factory wiring - no problem. I tested it and all the speakers were working great. I adjusted the gain a bit and was ready to go. Next I installed the steering wheel control unit by splicing into the other 20-pin adapter as instructed. I re-tested - everything still green.

Then I disconnected the Metra so I could install the Metra Turbo Kit bracket (actually the wrong kit.. I needed the 99-8210 and got the 99-8206) Anyway, once I ran the wiring through the installation kit and replugged up everything, I got no sound when I retested it. I checked all the connections (twice) and nothing! The deck turns on and works as it should. It's almost like the metra interface or the factory amp is not working. I checked the amp turn-on connection and it's made correctly.

Anyone had a problem like this or have a reccomendation? My concern is that the Metra interface is defective or something. I'd hate to have to try to get another one My other thought is a fuse or a short, but I gotta dig back into it to find somethign like that.

Powering back on??

Have you tried disconnecting the main power and tyto-o1 connection from the radio and then turning off the car? Plug them back in after a 15 second pause and then restart. The module should reinitiate it's connection. Hope that helps.

Well, after letting it sit for a day, I attempted it again - and it WORKED! I'm not sure if it was the sitting for while or if it was a bad connection, but problem solved.

I still need to go back in and re-adjust the potentiometer on the interface - I have it set a little low. Plus I have to program the SW control. Otherwise, it sounds GREAT!

I have the same trouble with my metra hookup...every time it does it though i just off the car for a few minutes and when I turn it back on it seems to work. So you def aren't crazy!!

I am struggling with the adapter a bit.... I can't seem to get it tuned with the adjustment for the level so that I get a good volume level without distortion, bottoming out the sub, or buzzing interferance. I really need to re-wire this crazy thing.

In addition, the level seems to fuctuate occationally while playing - very wierd.

Hey guys, same problem here. I just had circuit city install metra tyto-01 on my 03 4runner ltd with the new DNX7100 head unit. I've had this setup for about two weeks (in-depth write up pending) and the sound has "not started" at least 5 times. In other words, I turn car on...head unit comes up, but no sound...I wait a minute or so..still no sound, I turn car off, wait 5 sec then turn car back on...and sound is back on. I was about to blame circuit city installers..but since others on here are having the same problem, I guess I will just deal until I upgrade the amp and speakers (badly needed).

I'm sorry to hear you are also having problems. I have not had a consistant problem like you describe - mine is more infrequent. I'm hoping someone might have some input as to a "fix".

The adapter is really just a stop-gap until I can rewire my ride in the spring. The Michigan snow makes it dificult to get inspired to disassemble the 4runner to do that.

Maybe I have a funky adapter, but I am not thrilled with the setup.
