Michelin Cross Terrain

I hear a lot of grumbling on the forum about Dunlop tires. I just got my Limited last week and only just went out to see what kind of tires I have. Come to find out, they came with Michelin Cross Terrain SUV tires. I went to the Michelin site to check them out and found that they were made specificaly for SUVs. They rated 10 out of 10 for long tread life and quiet ride, 9 for wet and winter traction, 8 for handling and only 6 for mud traction.
The funny thing is, I don't see them in the size that are on the vehicle, 265/60R18.
Is the type of OEM tire a regional thing or is it by trim level?
These tires seem to be good from what I read so I am going to keep them till they wear out or I want a more agressive tread (might get transfered to Colorado in a year). They did rate a little low for mud traction.

Michelin CTs are excellent highway SUV tires...one of the best, if not the best. The tires you have on now are specifically made for Toyota. I am sure that this size will become available in the near future for the public.

CTs are not off-roading tires...so don't jump into mud. Otherwise, you got lucky with the tires on your 4runner.

I think I am going to go up to Kaena Point this weekend where there are some trails just to see what they get into up there. I know there are many trails that I won't even think about doing but maybe there will be an easy one. Mainly I want to go for the views and to see some har core off roading in Hawaii. It is gorgeous up there. If I go I will most definitely take pictures.

I'm on my second set, and would have to agree with those numbers. They're not the best in mud, but do fine on most of my soft core offroading. I had over 90K miles on my first set before I needed to change them, so wear is very good. Since I do more highway travel than offroading, these are the perfect tires for me. Once it turns to a play toy, then I'll change to Revos or something better.

I don't think it's regional, but most likely trim, since all Limiteds come with 18" rims. I've got them on my truck too. I like the tires too, haven't tried them in other conditions other than dry weather. I guess you and I lucked out, the other tire would've been Bridgestones. I don't recall the model nor it getting high praises like the Michelin CTs.

I'm sporting 275 55 18" Cross Terrains on my TRD wheels and they're a little bit different in design and tread pattern than the 17" Michelins.

I had Cross Terrains on my Grand Cherokee that I just got rid of when I got my new runner. They performed just as advertised for me: great on-road ride, quiet, high mileage and good on road in poor weather. I didn't take them off road so I can't comment there but would probably agree with other comments based on the tread patterns they have. I liked them so much, I'll probably seriously consider them when I wear my Dunlops out!

I've done some light off roading on my 17" CT's and they did fine. In fact, I've been out on a couple of trail rides with 4 or 5 folks from a local Jeep club. They were amazed with both the 4R's ability to keep up with them through the ugly stuff and the CT's capabilty.

In all honesty, we didn't get into any serious rock crawling situations, nor did I have to deal with any serious mud. However, my stock truck with the CT's was able to go everywhere the TJ's did without a problem. The only places I wimped out on were the really tight trails through the trees that would have resulted in serious body damage to the 4R.

I thought I would ask because of your user name, kimboy. It is pretty common for locals here to call each other by a friendly name. For instance, if my friend's name is Jon, I would call him "Jon boy." A shot in the dark.
But, back to the tire topic; I do like the ride and quietness of my 4Runner. It is very tame for such a capable vehicle.

I just took delivery of my new 06 Limited, and it came with Michelin CTs. I was pleasantly suprised to find them instead of the Bridgestones on the other 06s. Nothing against Bridgestone, I just prefer the Michelins. I've run Michelin CTs on a Mazda Tribute and got over 60k on the set, and they were some of the quietest tires I've ever had. They did great in the little bit of snow we had.

I'm planning on getting the CrossTerrains when my dunflops wear out. Love Michelin tires... expensive but they last forever. I would prefer to get the LTX for some better off-roading capability but they don't come in that weird size that Toyota specified for its 17" rims.

Out of all the OEM tires that come on the 4Runner the CTs are to best, especially if you live in warm area and do allot of highway.
