Michelin Latitude tires caught in highway grooves

In California, we sometimes have grooved highway surfaces. So I am driving 55-75mph on this, depending. I am driving on 1 yr old Michelin Latitude Tour 16" tires.

What happens is the tire tread, which parallels the grooves of the highway surface, shift the truck left and right as I drive, so the steering wheel jerks a little here and there.

This leads to some white knuckle driving as the tire tread seems to get caught in the road surface grooves.

Does anyone else notice this? (I've been experiencing this for the past year. The tires are wonderful on all other surfaces, esp non grooved surfaces)

I don't know actually. I just had the tires rotated, and drove on grooved highway yesterday and the 4runner seemed to be shifting all over the place.

It drives perfectly on asphalt - hands off wheel and it is steady and smooth.

grooves act like rails, i don`t think you can do anything about that.
Some tires not as grippy and feels better on grooved roads.
I rented dozens of different cars and all of them behave like that to some degree on grooved roads.

^ x3. I've occasionally noticed the same thing with my BFG T/A KO's. On most roads the 4runner tracks like it's on rails, but some grooved pavements pull it around a bit. It was worse when the tires were brand new, probably because the rubber gripped the grooves better.

Solution: Only drive on dirt and rocks. Dirt good, pavement bad!
