Michelin LTX AT 2 Reviews/Feedback needed

Anyone running these tires. Would appreciate feedback. I am looking at getting these very soon, I now there has been some discussion a while back and I can get info on Tirerack, but looking for more up to date reviews from T4R owners.

I am not a hard core off roader, this is my daily driver. I am going with 265/65-17 as I don't have a lift but may put on a front level kit soon also.

Its my daily driver, looking for and AT with good on road manners, but can handle off road. I live in NM, so no real mud, some snow and ice(on occasion), some gravel/sandy roads, some rocks when off road(mainly just get off the beaten path and explore but I don't want to be limited by tires either). Mostly highway, with some city driving.

How do they handle of road? Thanks for any feedback.

I put these on our 04 last fall to replace the worn Revos. They're just as quiet and seem to handle just as well on the road (wet/dry) as the Revo. The tires were mounted at my local Toyota dealer and run very smooth, way more smooth than the GY ATs on my 07 Silverado. My wife drove them in the snow and said they weren't as good as the Blizzaks stopping, but that's easy to understand (they aren't as soft and don't have as many sipes). Sorry, I've not had them off road other than driving through grass fields where any all-season would do fine. Good luck with your tire purchase.
 
I have Michelin's as well and use them from Spring to Fall , Tire Rack rated them very well for the snow which is not true, at least for my 4Runner...
My experience, they were terrible in the snow and winter in general. The traction on turns was scary , braking was lacking big time especially on packed roads, they were really good on super deep snow that were not previously driven on. They were great the first 5,000 miles for the winter then went to hell after that. I eventually had to put Blizzaks on the car and they made the car very enjoyable to drive in the winter.

On the positive, I have had the Michelin's for 20,000 miles and they barely wore down, quiet and smooth on nice days or rain.

Good luck, hard to find a good tire for year round use.
 
Two sets of LTX M&S prior on my Toyota 4 x 4 pickup... absolutely great tires both on the pavement and on the real Colorado 4 x 4 off roads. 72K+ miles on the first set and the second set barely worn after 20K miles when I sold the pickup.

Current set of the LTX M&S2's on the 2007 4Runner V8 4 x 4 run like a champ! Great on the highway, smooth and quiet, grip exceptionally well in the rain and on the snow, fine in the off-road... never have had a single problem!

I just bought a brand new set of four Michelin LTX M/S2 tires. I think we can all agree the stock Dunlop Grandtreks are absolute garbage.

I've had the new Michelins for less than a 1K, but I will say these are tremendously quite tires. I just went to Tahoe and drove through snow with confidence and didn't feel a hint of slippage.

They are rated as the #1 tire on TireRack for whatever that's worth to you. So far I would tend to agree that they are great tires.

They are a bit pedestrian looking as far as asthetics go, but again, great tires.

were you running the AT's or M/S?
 
I jsut recently added them to my runner... they are fantastic. I really like the ride, noise level is totally fine and the dirt I have been in you can feel them grabbing into it and keeping the truck on task. I have had two other sets of the version 1 /at on my tacoma. They were always fantastic. The tire tread life is great and you cannot beat the mileage. I am getting just over 23 mpg with them. 4 runners rock!

I agree with climb14er, the LTX MS2 would be perfect for you. Seems like you do less than 5% offroad. And Michelin rates it a 6/10 for offroad. These are the tires I will get after 10k miles.
 
Thanks for the reviews. I agree the MS2 might fit my needs also, but the AT2 has already been ordered. I think they'll be great.
 
These are the best truck tire I have ever owned. I like them better than BFG AT and AT KO, Yokohama Geolander, Bridgestone Revo, General Grabber, Firestone Wilderness, Pathfinder AT and BFG Longtrail.

They work great in snow and ice along with being very quiet on the highway. I rarely take them off road and even then, it's only on dirt roads.
 
I was curious to see how these are off road vs a BFG A/T since Michelin claims them to be a "10" in their off road category.
 
I am on my second set of LTX AT2's and have loved them. The first set rubbed a little at full lock up front. Then I put a daystar budget boost in just for looks and that fixed it. They are imo the best looking tires for mostly on road driving.
 
Most of the gripes seem to be with snow. Those are really the first bad reviews I've read. They aren't snow rated, to begin with. See the link below, many, many more reviews on tire rack and they are rated number 1 by customer surveys on their site. Granted, some tires like the Revo have had many more miles logged and are still top contenders, but it still speaks loudly to me. For every one bad review, there seem to be plenty of great reviews. I take them with a grain of salt, even the ones that make them sound like the world'd greatest tire ever.

Does anyone have a picture of the A/T'S and the M/S2 mounted on their 4R? I love how the BFG AT look but, i know they are not as good for highway travel just from past expierence on other viehicles.


PS: Most consumers are morons so i take consumer reports, as well as most reviews, with a grain of salt. Just like the saying "if you want something doen right do it yourself".

Michelin LTX A/T 2 feedback

Since this post I have put many more miles on.

Pros: Great wear, very secure feeling driving the Columbia River Gorge
in ALL CONDITIONS. Extremely tuff tire in the rocks (mine are Load range E).
Clean up great...even after rocks rubbing on the sidewalls.

Cons: Heavy in Load Range E.....Every year I "strain-my-milk" changing over to summer tires, Michelin Latitude (285/60/18 Speed Rating V) .....which by the way are not my favorite ....they tend to wander on roads with the studded tire grooves, which the Gorge freeway has many.
 
tires used

I have used 3 tire sets on my 2003 4runner (V8).

1 - Bridgestone (OME set)
2 - Goodyear Tripletread
3 - Michelin M/S 2

1 - No real issues. No real complaints.
2 - Wonderful in Rain. Noisy. Tread would clog in mud and deep snow.
3 - Quiet. Good in Rain. Wonderful at highway speeds. will sling mud and snow clear.

FYI - M/S = multi-season --not mud and snow.
 
I've never had a problem with these in the snow.

My snow story involves living and driving on super wet snow at 33 degrees one day and the next on super dry and swirling snow at 15 degrees on a glazed roads. Center of the Cascade Mountain range on the Columbia River Gorge, between Oregon and Washington.......winter really sucks here but the other 3 seasons are incredible!

Too many variables in snow driving to really count on "garden variety" reviews.
Any review work it's salt has a solid Base Line to measure from or at least collect anecdotal evidence under same-similar conditions......no substitute for experience.......get out and drive in it!!!:driving:
