Michelin LTX M/S2 265/70/R17 Best upgrade I've done to date!

Water @ Highway speeds... Excellent handling.

Drove through torrential downpours at 65 MPH handled like champ.

Puddles that accumulate on the highway used to drag my Dunlops to the left/right.

New tires track straight.

okay so I am the assistant manager of Big O tires in Tucson AZ. being around tires all day everyday one thing to keep your eye on with Michelin's is they are having issues with what they are calling "ozone cracking" more then they used to.

being in the desert where it is extra dry we have more of a issue then most of the country. The best tire (in my opinion) is the Nitto Crosstek. I've been running 265/65/17 (on my 03 sport) for a year now and i am hooked! Not to mention they are a great tire for dry climate because they are a silica based rubber compound (less likely to dry rot) I am actually buying new wheels for my 96 SR5 (they only come in 17's and up) so i can trade out my TAKO's for the Nitto's....

I ran both tires, Michelin LTX M/S2 and Nitto CrossTek at Big O tires, Tucson; interesting observation in which is silica based tires and also which tires cost more:

Wear-resistant polymers were infused throughout the compound along with wear-resistant carbon black to improve the overall durability of the CROSSTEK®. Each CROSSTEK® size is backed by either a 50,000-mile or 60,000-mile warranty depending on its speed rating."

The wear resistant compound is silica. Although Big O does not include this info on the page I've shown, the Nitto site, if you dig into it enough, will finally mention silica.

My money is still on the Michelin LTX M/S2 outperforming the Nitto Cross-Tek.

I put 100k on my first set, performed flawlessly in all conditions... On my second set with 80 k on them and still have more to go..... Great tires all around, worth every penny

the information is there...


with all the Michelin's I see on a daily basis that are trashed due to dry rot... i wouldn't spend that much on tires (and i get them at cost) that we have been told to make sure our consumers knew that they were having issues and they are only warranting them in extreme conditions .. (that is from the mouth of Michelin rep's)

just a professional opinion is all.. just wanted you to be aware and to keep an eye out for the issue was all..

Lots of tread depth still in my factory Dunlop Grandtreks which are okay in most conditions but are scary-greasy in snow and ice (hard compound?). Without a doubt the Michelins will be the replacements. Sure, dedicated winter tires/rims are the ideal choice but been-there-done-that and not happy with the extra cost and hassle of two sets of tires.
