I recently swapped out the stock Yoko tires on my '13 LTD for the LTX MS/2. No snow so far, but some is coming tomorrow. The reviews and comments seem to favor them as being quite good in snow, but then some hate them. I have to wonder if it's completely temperature related. 35F and 6" of snow is a lot different than 0F and 2" as far as traction, no? Do the LTX MS/2 just turn into hockey pucks below 25-30F?

I bought a 2006 4runner 4wd sport v6 in January of 2014 with the Michelin LTX MS/2 on it and about 10k miles on them. I noticed when I left a light (or tried to stop at one) the truck wouldn't stop very well and it would spin when leaving (until the computer would kick in and kill the engine). I also noticed when turning on slick roads (ice and snow packed) the truck would not turn, it would continue straight. I drove into some deep snow (to the bottom of the front bumper) and the truck was stuck. I was on partial ice, in 4 lo, on flat ground. I didn't know if it was the truck, the tires or the combination. So I kept driving it that winter. The tires do OK in snow as long as it isn't very deep and do great the rest of the year. I decided (last winter) to buy some snow only tires this winter which I had put on today, and the difference is night and day. I bought the Hankook i Pike RW11 snow tires (265/70/17). I can turn on ice and snow pack at slow and medium speeds and the truck turns as it should. I don't sit and spin at the light or stop sign (on slick roads) in 2wd any more either. When we get some deep snow I will test the traction in that condition as well and report back. I have talked to many people who run the Michelins and love them although they are running 1/2 or 3/4 ton trucks. I wonder if it is a weight thing too? I haven't checked the load rating on my Michelins. Also, we have run snow only tires on all our vehicles for 10 years or so. I really like the extra traction and sure footedness they provide. I hope this helps people looking for more info about winter tires.
