Michelin ltx ms 2 or at 2

I currently have cooper atp's (265 75 16), good tire but a little too loud for my taste.

Now I'm debating getting either Michelin ltx ms2 or at2's. I'd be running tundra wheels so I'd be getting 265 70 17's in the P range not LT. Cant find at2 in 265 75 16 in P.

Anybody driven both or either? Have any advice?

I obviously want something quiet... I really want the at's if they are quiet enough.

The ms2's are quiet, and will outlast the AT's. I have 20k on my ms2's, and I had cross-terrains before that, but Michelin stopped making them. I haven't driven the AT's.

Or maybe how do the ms2's do off road? I'm hoping one day Ill be able to take it off-road. Nothing serious.

I don't feel the AT2's gave me my money's worth. I mean off road some and highway most and I felt that Michelin missed it with the AT2. ltx MS2 gave me the best of both worlds. Now with that being said don't settle for the COSTCO brand Michelin Xradials they are junk. I made the mistake and I am paying for it this coming up soon.

M/S 2s without a doubt! We usually get around 90k out of them before we have to replace them due to age. Currently on my 3rd set for the 3rd gen. I've been down the occasional washed out dirt road just fine. No serious off roading though.

are you saying Michelin makes a lower level tire for Costco ? or a particular model/style.

Kind of like Moen makes top quality faucets, and a lower level for home depot to make the price points

Yea to some degree. Because I am not getting the life I should out of them at the moment. They ride smooth the work well off road but the tread wear isn't 70,000 mile rate worthy. Costco is offering to warranty them for me and upgrade because they advise the tire wasn't a good fit for the 4runner. Wasn't what I expected on my second rotate.

My individual opinion....not gospel:

I have run a number of sets on LTX M/S (LTs, not Ps) on various trucks including the 4Runner. I have also run 2 sets of A/T2 (also LTs and not Ps) on two 4Runners.
Of the two I heavily prefer the M/S LTX for on-road driving.
Better traction. Better wear. I've driven things like Engineer pass and Cinnamon and Tomichi and some slick-rock and a little sand (not deep) in Utah on both tires and found both to be adequate for those trails. I don't like or drive mud much so no answer for that. Both tires are relatively quiet, the highway tire is, of course, more quiet than the a/t tire. Both are quieter than the BFG A/T KO2 that I've been running on the 96 for more than 6 months now.

I'm in the same boat here, trying to decide (aka justify) which tires to get. The only problem is I'm shopping for tires for my 3rd gen and my new to me 100 series LX470!

The LX will be driven on road 90% of the time, with the other 10% of the time at the 4x4 beach (read: deep/soft sand) where I live. the 3rd gen will be the same terrain, but 75% on road 25% soft sand.

I'm leaning towards the Michelin LTX M/S on BOTH of them. I don't think my limited time on a 4x4 beach justifies the need for full out A/T tires.....although i love the looks of them, I have to think practically.

What are folks opinions of the Michelin LTX's aired down a bit for sand? My old balding firestone road tires do fine in the sand aired down a bit.

Are the LTX's "good enough" for occassional light off road use? or would I be better off spending the coin on at least one set of A/T tires for either of my two rigs? Chances are they will both end up at the same beach on the same day, beside eachother...

[MENTION=122121]Trialrun[/MENTION] hooked me up with my 265/65/17 ltx m/s2, a little smaller than I wanted, but if I'm going for quiet I might as well get some gas mileage back. Except they are going to look tiny now that I got my lift in.

Now I need to finish painting my 17" tundra wheels, get them mounted up and then I'll get my review out.
