Michelin or bridgestone?

I need tires and leaning towards Michelin Lattitudes for $840.00 but found some Bridgestone Alenzas for $700.00. both rated for 65k miles.
265-70-17's.
Suppose the Michelins are worth 140$ more. any thoughts?

Michelins will last a LOT longer than 65K if you keep them at the right pressure and rotate/balance them. I've never had an issue with a Michelin tire...

I think it really depends on your type of driving. If you are mainly on-road, I would definitely vote for Michelin over any other, although they stand up pretty well as an off-road tire as well, I am mainly referring to the ride when on pavement.

Don't shop for tread life - shop for traction in the driving conditions you plan to encounter. The longer the tread life, the harder the rubber which sometimes means less traction on pavement, depending on the tire. The comments at Tire Rack are very helpful.

I've been very happy with the Michelin Cross Terrains which were OEM on my 4Runner.

Unless you're only going from point A to point B, they'll last longer. So which michelins? I have owned a variety of Michelins galore from MXMV4s, Cross Terrains to LTXs and they all never pass thru 40K. They all are great and perform well but they didn't last longer than 40K (especially the way i drive).

I've had the LTXs on both a 99 Blazer and 00 F250 PSD.....and they have worn VERY well. Maybe it's the driver...

Good for you! Also, good choice of tires for those kinda vehicles.

My LTX's lasted over 5 years and 70,000 miles.

It might also be the fact that I buy my tires from Discount Tire and I make good use of their free balance and rotation policy...and I am pretty good about checking the tire pressure. I've also got a set of BFG KM2s on my wheeling rig (I do the alignment in my garage with a marker and tape measure:thumb3 that have more than 65K on them and still going strong...

I ran 2 sets of Michelin LT tires (not sure of the exact style) on my '93 Grand Cherokee LTD that I got rid of in '03 - 40,000 miles on each set. They replaced the OEM Good Years that came with the Jeep after only 20,000 miles on them.

Only reason I replaced the first set @ 40,000 miles was because the sidewalls developed cracks. I never had any other problems with them at all; I just couldn't take a chance that a blowout would happen while the family was in the vehicle. When I got rid of it the 2nd set started to show signs of cracking too, but there was plenty of thread-life left.

Before I bought the tires I was told by several people that the Michelin's sidewalls were prone to cracking - I don't know if that's the case now-a-days. In any event, I would by Michelin tires in a heartbeat!
