Got this truck, with an audio system already installed. Looks like a cheapy pioneer head, a sub woofer that was ripped out before i bought it, 1 working and one non working amp and bunch of cables that are routed from all sides of the truck.

I told someone i know that he can have the amps and cables if he'll help me with installing the tailgate, he agreed and ripped most of the stuff that he could get to out.

My goal is simple, to connect that after market pioneer unit to the stock speakers using the stock cables. I removed most of the dash and got to the radio area, where i was greeted with bunch of tapped in wires etc. I took some pics but not sure how much they will help.
Anyhow I have no idea what goes where and because of $ reasons i have to do this on my own. Where should I start? Although the radio was working before the amps were ripped off, now it just turns on but no audio comes from the speakers.

before you get all worked up...see those two white clips in the middle of the wiring? unclip those.

now you're left with the stock harness (all the way in the back). Then you have the white clips, a jumble of wires, and then its connected to the head unit.

if you're installing a different aftermarket head, go to the store and buy yourself a $20 wiring kit....will make your life about 1 billion times easier. If you're going back to stock head unit, plug it directly into those back plugs i was talking about earlier

That doesn't look too bad actually. So it sounds like the speakers were wired to the amp. Pop off the door panels and see what the wiring looks like. You will need to take the panels off anyway to remove any excess wire remaining from the amp install. Also, if you do decide to keep that h/u and you listen to the radio, you're going to want to connect both antenna wires. There is only one connected in the pic so you should be looking to see if a rather thick black cable is disconnected or spliced into something down the line.

Oh really? So i just go get me a pioneer radio install kit and install it to the stock harness ( the two white clips) and voila it should work eh? I am not sure iof they ran new cables to the speakers. The front ones seem like they have the stock wires. Where are the rears? Are they above the tire wells in the back?
Are there speakers up right by the back window or are they just heating vents?
Yes I am mechanically declined.

First of all, that little white rectangle that has one phillips screw holding it to the back of the headunit, remove that. That is the Anti-theft device that would bake the alarm go off if you stole it from a store, it is no longer needed and will just get in the way. Second, as was stated before, unplug those two white clips, that will allow you to better see how everything was wired. I need a better look at that wiring harness but I would be willing to bet that the original installer wired the speaker outputs of the amp to the factory speaker wires at the head unit. If this is the case, all you have to do is cut a few wires and crimp them and you should be good to go...

If you could unclip those plugs from the factory harness, remove all the zip-ties, and possibly take a more in focus picture, I should be able to help you a little better.


Also, as for Mickey Mouse jobs, that is a rather clean install. I have seen Worse, Much Worse...

i wouldn't bite off more than you can chew. although very easy, have a friend thats pulled a headunit once before show you what to do. it'll save you a headache (a different friend then the one you spoke about in post 1)

Well thanks for the hints. It was not as bad as I thought. After I disconnected the factory harness, I was left with 2 harnesses with factory clips on one end and the head unit clip on the other. It was not too hard to figure it out from there, I just cut out the stuff that was branching out to the amps, matched the colors on the harness and connected them using butt connectors. Voila, head unit, radio and all speakers work. Thats all I needed.

Can anyone help me find out which wire (what color) is for the power antenna in my 1995 runner? I need the radio for the drive-in theater. Thanks.
