Microsoft IE updates

I just downloaded the latest Microsoft Updates that became available today and since then I keep getting that stupid error with the "send error report" "don't send error report" and it exiting me off the internet every time I try to open a thread.

WTF? anyone else have this problem? Know what it is or what I can do to fix?

I have a second computer in my office which I didn't update yet and it is working fine as usual

I can't help you with IE, but I use the Firefox browser from Mozilla.

It is much more stable.

I had the update today on both my computers without incident when I opened IE to checkout your post.

But then again, I primarily use Firefox and only use IE if Firefox doesn't work 100% on a few sites. I've found that Firefox is more reliable and stable.

Exactly like I do. If Firefox shows any instability, it's usually an extension.

toybox, not sure if you took a backup just before the updates -- if you did, you could restore it and start over. I've learned that lesson the hard way.... :cursin:

Toybox,
If you're using XP you may be able to restore to an eariler date (start-help & support-system restore). But then you will have to download Firefox again.

Misery loves company At least I know I'm not the only one and that it seems it was definitely caused by the update.

biglatka, this is on one of my work computers and I don't want to mess with anything else especially since I found that Firefox works well as an alternative. Thanks for the tip though.

Just recovered from this same problem. MS Automatic Update loaded a change that caused certian sites to not show. I thought this site was down because other sites were still working. Used another computer to find this site was actually OK and found this thread. The System Restore took an automatic restore point before loading the update so I was able to restore back to the previous settings (whatever they are.) The System Restore said that nothing was changed but in fact something did change because this site now works (on the prior settings.) I can make the issue come and go by using different restore points.
I have also changed my automatic update settings to prompt me to allow downloads so I can create manual restore points.
Does anyone have any insight into what MS changed with IE and is there something I should change in the configuration after this recent update. I am planning on logging/sending feedback to MS.

I'm wondering if this is having a general impact on this site's visits? Has there been a drop in traffic since about Aug. 9th? Is there anything different at your server end (other site's on the same server having issues) that would cause this and not at other sites?

Not that we could tell. Everything has been the same. I did get a few of those "Send Error Report" initially, but not recently. I did do the IE update. Hopefully, it won't affect the membership.

I just tried to delete the update but it shut my whole computer down.

My update is going good...and i never had a problem with this website.

No, as far as I know but I do run my checks every week. Besides this happened immediatly after the update I did. But for good measure I will run the checks now.

That's one of the reasons I back up the system before installing updates. I've even had application software like Nero make the entire machine unusable.

One other thought -- have you tried a registry cleaner to make sure it's not a setting that's messed up?

Well my home computer automatically updated and the same thing happened at home. I went and deleted the 7 parts I think of the update with it shuting down after each one I deleted.

After that I stopped the automatic updates and opted for a promt before it updates in the future. This way i will be able to do a restore first as you suggested.

Everything is fine after i deleted the updates so I'm fairly certain it was the updates that are causing my problems at home and work.

Glad to hear that you got them back to working order. About the only thing I allow to install without a backup are antivirus and antispyware definitions. For everything else, better safe than sorry.
