Might be buying today.. what do you think of this one??

So, took the drive and saw some scenery but it wasn't worth it in the end. Where do I start? Took me about 4 hours to get up there and really thought this one would be worth it.

I looked through the vehicle for about 30 minutes or so and kind of milled over it before I really chatted with the store owner about it. At first site, I noticed a few minor problems with it. Mechanically, the steering wheel was not straight when the tires were so off the bat I knew there would be an alignment issue, tie rods, something etc.. Then I noticed when I checked the oil it was almost black. Very dirty for how many miles were on it. Interior was a few of the same things. One of the front speakers was blown, power antenna doesn't go up all the way on the outside, and also the rear bumper was all rusted on the inside. Some small amounts of rust on the underbody that I could have dealt with...

So, at this point I said let me take it for a drive and see what I see. Maybe with all these things I can knock a few thousand off the price and see if he bites. He let me drive it on my own which was good, and about 5 minutes into the drive the service engine light went on. The vehicle pulled horribly to the right side, and there was a loud clunk when shifting into reverse. I assumed a mount or something...

Got back to the dealership and talked with him. Offered him $6500 for it, and he laughed. I immediately verbalized all the problems with it and he said some of those things are "normal". I said normal or not, I still have to get them fixed, lol. He said whatever was causing the service light would be fixed up. I told him I was going to grab some lunch. If you want to sell it for 65 give me a call. Here is my cell phone number. I left and he called me 20 minutes later and said the best he could do on it was $7400 as-is without anything being fixed. I said thank you for your time and enjoyed a relaxing drive back to Birmingham :]

There are a lot of nice ones out there. You want to be spending money on mods not repairs

Good move on the walk away.
Condition it was in I would of offered him 3 Grand tops.

Wow you wont be finding many 4-runners at your spending limit.

Ive had offers 7 - 8.5G for my 96 limited 180 thousand miles on it.
I will never sell it!

You should have sold it. If some one offered 8.5k for my flawless 99 limited, it would be gone.

I came close to making sell then woke up.
In the past I sold my 78 Landcruiser FJ40 < Bad move many regrets doing so.
Every time a see one depression kicks in hurts to throw thumbs up to driver.

Sold my 1994 4runner SR5 < I didn't sleep for a month

My 96 is payed off in mint condition been well maintained has another 100 thousand miles of life in her its a keeper.

Sorry to hear about the issues that the 4Runner was having.

It's good that you walked away from it.

I would keep checking the for sales here on T4R.org, Ebay, and the local Toyota dealerships.

As I stated before, I looked for 60 days and found mine on Ebay at a local Toyota Dealership. I love it. The right one will show up, just stay positive.

I know you already looked at it but just for a price reference, that was too high. I'm in Atlanta which seems to have the most expensive 4Runners in America. I looked for almost 6 months and came to this conclusion.

I purchased that exact same 4R, even same mileage, back in February for $6,200. The guy was asking $8K and that was a good deal compared to everything else I saw out there. I was able to get the price down because 1) he needed it gone because he bought a new car for his daughter who drove it before selling the 4R and 2) it has a small dent on the rear bumper on the side beneath the tail light. I beat him up over that pretty bad.

Anyways, I also looked in B-Ham since it's not far from Atlanta and it seemed the 4Runners there were almost in the same price ballpark as those in Atlanta. Like I said, it took me almost 6 months to find my 4Runner and I'm very glad I waited.

And to the guy who said that's a base model SR5, you're wrong. The only thing it's missing over the Limited is leather and automatic climate control but it has the Sport package with silver interior trim and the hood scoop. I'll take that over leather, woodgrain and an ACC that will break anyday.
