Might be buying today.. what do you think of this one??

Hey ya'll! Taking a long road trip to Memphis today with the hopes of buying my first 4runner!! Talked to the internet manager on the phone about this vehicle and went on and on saying it's as clean as a whistle.

He said there is practically no rust on it, 2 owner on CarFax. Only 122k on it. Always driven in TN. What do you think the lowest price should be?? Preparing to make an offer if I like it. Check out the autotrader link below..

Get them to send you some pics of the engine bay as well as underneath, post them, and then we can draw a better conclusion. Offhand, it looks good but I would not spend more than $9000 on it.

That looks pretty nice. I'd say that 10900 is a bit high. I would think more in the 8-9 range. That is assuming it is completely rust free, which it probably is being from TN (I don't think they use salt there).

Read the buyers guide (Search for it, it isn't sticky'd yet). There are some maintenance issues that might help you bargain with (if they havn't been done). Things like tires, timing belt, rear axle seals, etc.

Def get some other opinions though on the price.

That is ALOT of miles for 10,900 for a base SR5. At the price the car is not worth it. You would be better off consider 4th gen

I wouldn't pay more than $8,500. There are 4th gens I saw here yesterday that have the same miles for what you are about to pay. Keep looking.

Assuming that they are in excellent condition and average mileage use.
Prices drop significantly for any damage or excessive wear.

6weeks ago I paid $11,250 for a 2003 Limited. It has 155000 miles but they are commuter miles from Colorado Springs to Denver (60 miles one way). I saw maintaince records/ receipts and I am very happy with it.

8 or 9 k sounds about right for what you are looking at.

There are a lot of 2003 on the market at dealers in the $15 range. I bought mine from a private seller.

So, took the drive and saw some scenery but it wasn't worth it in the end. Where do I start? Took me about 4 hours to get up there and really thought this one would be worth it.

I looked through the vehicle for about 30 minutes or so and kind of milled over it before I really chatted with the store owner about it. At first site, I noticed a few minor problems with it. Mechanically, the steering wheel was not straight when the tires were so off the bat I knew there would be an alignment issue, tie rods, something etc.. Then I noticed when I checked the oil it was almost black. Very dirty for how many miles were on it. Interior was a few of the same things. One of the front speakers was blown, power antenna doesn't go up all the way on the outside, and also the rear bumper was all rusted on the inside. Some small amounts of rust on the underbody that I could have dealt with...

So, at this point I said let me take it for a drive and see what I see. Maybe with all these things I can knock a few thousand off the price and see if he bites. He let me drive it on my own which was good, and about 5 minutes into the drive the service engine light went on. The vehicle pulled horribly to the right side, and there was a loud clunk when shifting into reverse. I assumed a mount or something...

Got back to the dealership and talked with him. Offered him $6500 for it, and he laughed. I immediately verbalized all the problems with it and he said some of those things are "normal". I said normal or not, I still have to get them fixed, lol. He said whatever was causing the service light would be fixed up. I told him I was going to grab some lunch. If you want to sell it for 65 give me a call. Here is my cell phone number. I left and he called me 20 minutes later and said the best he could do on it was $7400 as-is without anything being fixed. I said thank you for your time and enjoyed a relaxing drive back to Birmingham :]

However, the one thing I will say is the overall interior and exterior of the car were in really really nice shape. It's just a shame it had so many small problems going on with it. No idea what the engine light was on for though....

Wow you wont be finding many 4-runners at your spending limit.

Ive had offers 7 - 8.5G for my 96 limited 180 thousand miles on it.
I will never sell it!
