I hate to even consider this but I'm having trouble getting past the lack of headroom. I was not aware having the sunroof would make a difference but it does. I must have test drove 1 without the moonroof cause I did not notice a problem. I'm almost 6'3. I dont touch the roof but it still a bit close. I was hoping I would get used to it. Not yet. I was in my buddy's H2 the other day. He has a sunroof and his headroom is not much either but still better than mine. If anyone wants to discuss buying mine I have a white SR5 V8 4wd. It has taupe leather, moonroof,17 wheels, double deck cargo system with cargo net,tonneau cover,leather steering wheel and shift knob,rear spoiler,daytime running lights,moonroof,security system upgrade,carpet mat set/rear cargo mat,black roof rack. I have only had the truck a month. It has 1050 miles. Has not been offroad yet or used for towing. Its perfect. The depreciation will not be pretty I know. MSRP on the truck was $36,345.00. I paid 31,900 plus ttl after 750.00 rebate. I'm in Houston. Willing to consider reasonable offers. With the exception of the headroom, this vehicle is awesome.

Duuuuuuuuude......I am over 6'3" and just lean the seat back a bit.....sure you can't get comfortable? I even wear a hat sometimes and have not noticed it being a problem.

You just mentioned comfort is a issue, and so did he. That is why he is selling the SUV. Comfort is important, I am sorry for situation. If you can swing it the Lexus GX470 would be a comfortable fit for a man of your size, plenty of headroom.

Pal, I am not as tall as you are. I am 6,1" but because I have a neck problem i have to have the seat straight up. A small tilt to the back and I get a headache.
Right after we had the 4runner I complained about the exact same thing, having a sunroof as well. Then, one day playing with the seat controls (manual not electric), I found a way to really lower the seat, I mean lowering it not tilting it backwards. That gave me about 1-2" more space from my head to the roof, no complains after that.
Maybe you already tried that, maybe not... I has just suggesting a possibility.

Hope that helps and I save one 4runner to be not appreciated by the owner.

For the amount of money you're going to lose.....I would mess my hair up all day long brushing the headliner.

6'2" + here also.....my head brushes in 90% of vehicles with sunroofs and the 4R is no execption. But once the seat is adjusted right, no problem getting comfortable.

I am not happy with the low seats and low roof on the 4th gen 4Runners. In contrast, my 2000 3rd Gen was great.

In any event, I still bought myself an 05' Sport, but WITHOUT the sunroof. The roof is low as it is. With the sunroof it was just crazy. BTW, I'm 6'O"

Even though I'm not particularly happy with the seating arrangement, I still bought the 4Runner because of its near bullet proof reliability.

Thanks for the feedback. I can assure you I have tried all seat positions. Its not that I am unconfortable sitting. Its just having the roof so close is kinda strange. I'm a little down that I did so much research on choosing the 4 runner and all the options but seemed to overlook sunroof/headroom clearance. I might still adjust. It's a tough call since I would take such a big hit but comfort is important when you talking about keeping a vehicle for the long term. This is definately the kind of vehicle I would generally keep for 150k or more. Still would consider offers.

i feel for you cuz i had the exact same problem. and i'm only 6 feet tall. i walked to the dealership with leather and sunroof in mind. but after sitting on several 06 4runners, i came to the following conclusion...

1. you get more headroom without sunroof

2. for some reason, cloth seat is MUCH more comfortable than leather seat.

so i ended up buying 06 SR5 white with cloth seat and without sunroof. i couldn't be happier.

maybe 4runners don't have much headroom cuz it was designed in japan and japanese in general are small?

Probably. I just read an article on Yahoo about how the foriegn automakers are making their cars headed to the US with wider seats so Americans can fit their fat asses in them. Domestics went to wider seats a long time ago.

Maybe there is an aftermarket or custom seat you could get that would sit you a few inches lower. Even it cost a grand, that would still be less than the depreciation hit. Have no idea if there are actually any options.

:iagree: Yup, I've read the same thing some where. US Camrys and Accords have widers seats in them than the export models.

I think part of it is that a lot of americans are fat, but also from my travels I've noticed that americans are just bigger then the people in other countrys. I'm 5'10" and weigh 200 lbs. not fat with a 34" waist. We get better nurtrition in the US and many of us workout. The Japanese are just naturally smaller. Now as the Chinese market develops and they get better nutrition will be another group of large consumers. It's smart to design and market to the people that will be buying your product.

After much consideration I have decided to keep the 4runner. The headroom could be better for sure but its definately doable. The more I drive the truck the more I appreciate the quality. Now that I have put this issue behind me I'm ready to discuss a Nav Install. I'll start another thread. Thanks

:iagree: I'm 6'1", my parents and relatives, their friends, etc. all attribute it to the great nutrition in the US for my height. Speaking of which, I've haven't noticed any headroom issues during my test drive, but I should spend a little more time and make sure it's comfy for me before my 4R arrives. When I vacationing in China a few years ago, I got stares and looks everywhere I went, not too many Asians are this tall, with the exception of Yao Ming. Previous generations in China had a lack of nutrition; dairy products were a rare commodity.

You could also strip out the drivers seat and install a recaro. They use their own frame, which has three height positions (both in the front and back). At least it would be cheaper than selling the rig.
