I might be selling my beloved Toyota 4Runner...

Might be being the words to consider. Nothing set in stone for now, but if I do end up selling my truck it would be replaced by a Toyota LAND CRUISER! I won't know if I'll be selling it till probably another week.

I know mods don't really count towards a final price, but with all I've done to the truck (see below for list), the low mileage (roughly 135k) and rare options all together (5spd, eLocker), do you think $7000 is a reasonable asking price? If not, what's your opinion what the truck is worth?

Improvements:
FJ Cruiser Rims (may keep these anyways)
Professionally (high-end) tint job (15%)
231mm Tundra Brake Upgrade
New Rear Drum Brakes
Axle Seal replaced
Tow Package installed
'99 Headlights installed
Tundra/LC & Bilstein lift
Toytec Adj Panhard bar

Probably include a '99 center console and Subwoofer box made for the 3rd Gen also.

I think the only cons are the damaged rear driver-side bumper (from previous owner) and minor wear inside.

Looking for some constructive critizism, btw. Again, not sure yet if I'm selling my truck yet or not. There's more of a chance I'll be keeping the 4Runner, but thought I'd ask the question anyways. If I don't sell it I'll still love it and the modding will continue on!

nice one! Id buy it for 7k ( and would consider it seriously if you do decide to sell). I think its a good price for all that it has going for it. I can get barely get a bare bones stock 3rd gen for that price around here.

Worth? $7000 or so w/o the locker, add $1K for the locker and $500 to negotiate with. So ask $8500, you should get $8K easily/quickly along the front range. Take a look at what's selling on Craigslist - you won't find many 5 speeds or lockers; and anything with low mileage has an asking price near $10K.

That's a low price for Colorado. My starting price would be $9k out there and I'll bet you can get close to $8k. I completely agree with taylor, the earlier Land Cruisers are my favorite (later '90's). If the mpg's were a little better I would definitely have bought that over the Sequoia I just picked up.

Yeah, I'm looking at a Land Cruiser between '91 - '97. Those are my favorite years for the that truck, and one of my favorite looking trucks of all time. Gonna go look at one tomorrow, and if really is what I'm looking for I may just be selling the 4Runner. I'll miss her if I do.

From the consensus, it sounds like I could get closer to $8000 for the truck. I definitely believe it's worth that much myself, but being an older truck I wasn't sure what one would pay for it. I've probably put up to if not more than $3.5k into it between mods, upgrades, and repairs doing a bit of the work myself. I have another $5k in mods I wanted to do as well if I keep her.

Saw someone with a '96, 5spd, e-locker, near same p mileage, other updates (not the same as mine), and no lift on Craigslist. They were firm on $8.5k, per there post. I assume that probably means I could get a fair amount for my truck....


Edit - I want to note, I'm not greedy like some certain posts I've seen in the classifieds (*cough*holygrail*cough*), so I don't mind not getting top dollar. I'd be happy to get what I want out of it, and know she's going to an owner that will take care of her and appreciate what the mods that were done.

You have a REALLY nice rig, the color also looks nice... You could have a hard time selling it for that much to an "average" buyer, since the outside may look somewhat close to stock, because they may not appreciate all the mods that you've done (internal like brakes and such)

I think you could totally get at least 8K for it, 7K at the bare minimum. I just bought a 1998 SR5 4WD 3.4L V6, 98K miles with an ARB bumper and BFG Rugged Trails (brand new) for around $7K -I suspect I overpaid big time, but I felt the extra money was worth it for the ARB & tires as well as the low low miles.

I would go with $8000 and be patient. The mods aren't going to mean much to someone who doesn't understand why you did them. If you are looking for a quick sale I would think about $7000 to $7500. Maybe the market is better in the Denver area but down in C. Springs I seem to see a lot of 4Runners for sale.

Nice choice. Now that my '01 4Runner is gone I am down to my '04 100-series.

I was looking for the samething (Landcruiser) before I found my runner. The MPGs on those things is what killed it for me.

What you got there is a nicely modified 3rd gen, regardless of the year. Nothing is "half-assed" about your build. You know if you sell this rare combo (5 speed & e locker) you're chances of finding another one like it are probably about as good as winning the mega million lottery. Whereas your chances of wishing you would have never let it go are a definite!

It's a clean truck, and if you absolutely must sell don't settle for anything less that what you think it's worth!

That's my fear as well... I love this truck, and everything I've done to it. However, I would like something with a bit more power to pull my trailer. If I could easily drop a V8 engine into this 4Runner I would do it in a heartbeat! Alas, I don't have the skills like Singtoe to do a job like that.

The Land Cruiser, on the other hand, has had V8s dropped in them pretty often, and not just one kind. I believe there's even an outfit here in Colorado that actually does that. Plus, Land Cruisers are still bad a$$ looking.

$7k seems more than fair considering miles, the tasteful mods, and that you live in colorado. I would rather your truck than the holy grail truck threads. I'd list it for $7500 if i were you.

But get the FJ62, you can get it with a proper transmission.

So I went to take a look at that Land Cruiser yesterday. Man, it was an awesome looking vehicle! It's got a transplanted Chevy V8 350 in it, a bit of frabrication to get it a bit higher in the air, a bigger fuel tank (in the place of the spare tire), and other tasteful mods! It was a beast and a clean one at that!

All the parts of me that loves my 4Runner for what it can do and what I could do to it was screaming at me to buy it! Then the more sensible, parent-like type of me was telling me "this won't make a very good family vehicle" which unfortunately is what I still need. It would have needed a bit of work to make it such too (among a bit of maintenance needed). The pictures really don't do it justice.

But I think in the end, I'm going to keep my 4Runner and pass on this awesome Land Cruiser for someone else to really enjoy. It was great to see it, however, and gave me ideas of someday when I get a Land Cruiser and put a V8 (probably Toyota's 4.7L) in it. Actually, right afterwards I went looking and found a 1996 LC with a blown engine and a 2000 LC with a good engine but otherwise totalled and wished I had more money in my pocket.

If I find another one like this but a bit more family friendly I would definitely trade in my 4Runner for it. Thanks for everyone for their feedback!

It sure seems 3rd gen prices have really leveled off for trucks with less than 200k miles on them and under 150k gets even better. I'd feel confident mine would sell close to $8k even with 172k on it but mine is a keeper and have no plans to sell it unless a 5th gen TE is in my sights anytime soon.

Yeah that thing is not that bad of a price at all, if it doesnt have some hidden major problem. Those are solid front axle?
Get rid of those ugly side flares, bc eventually a tree would rip it off, get armorology bumps built for it, and some better rims for wheeling with a bit more off set and that's a monster.
Unfortunately I don't have the $$$ either, but if I did that's what I'd do to her.
