Hey guys I had a 2003 4 Runner Sport V8 about 2 years ago and sold it to buy a 2006 Nissa Xterra Offroad. I'm less than thrilled with the Xterra's paint so I'm thinking of trading it in on either an 07 Hummer H3 or a 2007 4 Runner. If I do buy the 4 runner it needs to have the following but I'm not sure if I can get what I want. I've been going through the different options on their website but it's hard to figure out. Here's the list

Must be Natural White in colour / hood scoop / sunroof / good stereo / steering wheel controls / some type of lift kit that can handle 33" tires and lastly 33" tires and rims that will work with all of the above. Keep in mind I'm in Canada so that may affect what options come with what.

Thanks for any / all of your help and hopefully I'll become an active member of this site again if I can get the truck I want.

Hmmmm, Well you could get a Sport but the Sport has XREAS so you can't put a large lift on it without removing the XREAS. So maybe a after market hood scoop on a SR5. You can get a JBL option with the audio controls on the steering wheel on the SR5. I'm not sure on the lift.

FYI
Lots of people don't like the sunroof, it has design problems.

Definitely go with the 4Runner over the Hummer. Such a big lift can get tricky with XREAS, but every sport has the steering wheel controls and hood scoop! :D

Being in Canada, to get the scoop you need the Sport pkg... and that will also give you your sunroof, decent stereo (6 pack, MP3) and steering wheel controls... BUT as mentioned you will be forced to get XREAS.

IIRC, there are only 4 colors available in the sport: Meteorite Gray (Really dark), Galactic Gray (medium/dark), Black, and Silver... which is too bad because I really wanted Blue. :( Ended up with Galactic Gray.

All in Canada except the base SR5 come with XREAS. So, if you really don't want the XREAS, you're going to end up with the SR5. You'll get the base stereo, no steering wheel controls and no sunroof.

Choose your poison.

Edit: To clarify for our American friends, in Canada we don't have nearly the flexibility for options the US does. You can get the SR5, Sport or Limited. That's it. No picking and choosing options in between. If you go base, you can't get a fancier stereo unless you opt for the whole Sport package.

Sounds like what your looking for id the H3 with the adventure package.

I almost bought one myself , by the 5cyl engine cant even get out of its own way.

I also would check out an FJ . There are so many cool parts , rims , lifts ect... coming out for them.

The nice thing about the H3 is that you can get all the things you want by picking one up right off the dealer floor , be ready for resale to be in the tank if you turn it in the next couple years , also crap shoot on if you get a good one or not. The odds of that are quite different than the 4R.

My personal dream with my current 4R would be a nice small to mild lifted 4R , nice TRD rims I wont go to 33 tires , look good but pointless for me IMO.

LIke Falls said I would've chosen the Hummer (H3) also except the GM 5 cyclinder engine SUXs! The engine is sooo weak that it wouldn't be a top choice for an quad runner ethusiasist.

On the other hand, the H3 is sharp when decked out. You can "jack" it up a lot higher than a funky 2"-3" high 4 Runner. You will find many, many more aftermarket accessories for the H3. If you are into chrome packaging for looks then I'd go with the H3. The engine is a weenie therefore if you can wait for the 2008 model to appear with the larger engine; you'll be much more satisified.

I personally like the looks of the H3 over the 4 Runner but I'd take my Runner's dependablity, qualiity, resale value and power over that GM product. Good luck in your choice as you the owner/driver are the most important one to satisfy with this purchase.

The only thing else I had a little problem with the H3 was , although its cool looking to an extent , it has a little much of the "look at me factor " for me.

I guess you get used to it.

They are supposed to be putting a V8 in it soon from what I hear. I personally think that is a mistake on Hummers/GM's part , when they can put one of the high output/HP V6's in it and get a little better milage out of it , I'm sure the v8 will suck alot of fuel with those 33's on it. Lets face it the power of having a V8 is great ( I love it in my 4R ) but right now with fuel prices the way they are there will be no in between , either get the ungodly under powered 5 cyl. or the V8 and suck more fuel.

Buyers are very cautious about milage right now and lets face it there is no end in sight.

I would trick out a 4R or an FJ and at least get the reliability , toughness , resale , quality of a Toyota.
