might buy this '04 SR5 4X4

Hey!

I was thinking about getting an Avalanche but decided a black '04 4Runner might compliment my wife's black '10 Rav4. I thought about going back to the Grand Cherokee, but the 4Runner looks like a nice change of pace.

Anyway...wondering what you all think:

Looks pretty good to me! I can just see the lift and big boy tires on it now. The only think I don't like is that the hood doesn't have the scoop. Oh well.

What should I look for when I see it in person tomorrow morning? I'm guessing the tires, plugs, and filters are probably original. Should I negotiate that stuff in? Typical problems I should look for?

Thats ridiculously low miles. Typically if the 4x4 system isn't often used it can seize. Make sure it shifts into 4hi and lo. Sometimes it can take awhile 2mins or so, so don't be alarmed if it takes that long. You can expedite it sometimes by shifting into neutral and back into drive. Only static of course. If you're changing it on the fly while you're test-driving it has to be less than 60mph. For 4lo, it has to be in park I believe, maybe neutral. I can't remember right now, but if it beeps at you, its in the wrong gear. So just make sure it actually shifts into 4. Another very common problem on the 4th gen is frozen brake calipers on the front. Its a dual clamp system, and one side will seize so basically you're only getting half brakes. Most people don't actually notice because the stopping power is still is there.

cool. i can handle that.

so, i've noticed that on one hand i'm getting really low miles, aftermarket nav/head unit, rear dvd, and 3rd seats. on the other, i'm giving up the sport edition, premium sound, not sure about the 115v outlet yet, and of course the hood scoop.

what am i really giving up without getting the sport edition other than the hood? i don't need the air suspension. it would be nice to have a premium sound system, but i can get use to the stock one or upgrade later.

Sounds like it was not used very much. Make sure it wasn't water damaged and sitting around. It should have a clean smell inside. The front brakes will be an issue as previously discussed but an easy fix. I'm sure they are original since mine lasted till 62K. I would try to negotiate the price a little but thats just me. Everything else on it is probably original. I would use the iridium plugs, change the oil, cabin filter, inspect the serp belt and grease the zirks for starters.
