Might Turn into a Build Tread...have a few questions

Hello,

I have a 2000 4Runner and kinda caught the bug now. I wanted something reliable and something I didn't feel the need to fix up (came from import scene). I was doing good until last year when someone ran a red light and messed up my front bumper! I said F it, and decided to go with an ARB. Since then, now I have the urge to modify it! LOL

I bought a Ultimate Toytec lift and don't want to install it until I get rims. Seems like maybe most people get 16x8, but I'm not sure what off set to get. I want it to be at least flush with the fender flares, but probably want it to stick out a little. What size whould I get? 17" and 18" sizes are welcome, also!

I also bought Bilstein 5100's about a year ago, but the truck is starting to rock back and forth on the freeway again. Is it possible I blew a shock already or could it be old bushings somewhere. If its bushings, can you tell me which ones I should change while I'm getting the lift installed?

Also, is it common for the valve cover bolts to keep coming loose? I tighten them, but they keep coming loose...

Sorry this is so long! Thanks in advance for any advise given!

I went with 16x8 and will probably go to 17s in the future, kinda wish I did so initially. 16" is cheaper but if I'm not mistaken 17" is much more common for tires, and more importantly they can fit Tundra brakes. That tiny little bump in size really adds a lot to the look of the vehicle too

What offset is your 16x8's and what size 17's and size tires are you thinking of getting? I don't want to rub and don't want to cut into the body, either...

I believe they had 4" of backspacing. I'd stick with 33" tires for that reason, and also that I don't have much reason for 35s.

You guys can post pictures of your rides! Please include your wheel & tire sizes and the offsets…thanks!

Can't help with the form questions as for me, function defines form...

But you almost certainly need to replace ALL of the bushings. I did mine in 3 steps and Each step saw a big improvement in road manors, especially at speeds 50~55 and up. But, since you want a list, Front upper control arms, front lower control arms, rear upper control arms, rear lower control arms, swaybar front and rear, steering rack and panhard bar. I did them myself using Whiteline poly replacements (about 1/4 the cost of OEM) and it's not the same as putting poly bushings into something sporty (I did a Porsche 944). I'm 4 years in with zero squeaks and no need for silicone spray, so there's that too... From a function standpoint, replacing all the bushings was Easily the single best thing I've done to this 4runner. There are a couple videos from Tim and Sean on this if you were a DIYer, I've linked ot those and listed part numbers in my build thread index.

And yes, the valve cover bolts loosen to a point, but they won't come out. If you're concerned, put a small dab of blue on them.

Thanks for the advise! I'll take a look at Whitline for the bushings!

I want to get some rims soon. I see a lot of 17x8.5 -10 offset, for sale. I was told by a shop that this is too aggressive for a 3rd gen. Any thoughts or anyone have any pictures of what this size looks like on our 3rd gens?

I tried to order 17x8 +0 offset, but the wait is 7+ months out and I don't want to wait that long....LOL
