Mild upgrade for stock stereo question

I have a 4th gen with the JBL stereo in it, and I was wondering what an easy setup would be to add a little more bass to my system. I was thinking of eliminating the 8'' sub now, and adding two 10's with a seperate amp. I would run the power wire from the batt (obviously)- but I would tap into the old subwires by adding an RCA in-line hook up that converts regular speaker wires into RCA's for my new amp. That takes care of the bass... but for the highs, I would add some bass blockers and elim the bass in those speakers to have better control at my stock headunit for bass control. Is this the most ghetto setup you guys have heard of? Has it been done? Should I consider trying it? Let me know. Thanks

I am interested as to what other people will say to this as I wonder the same thing. Sounds like you have a good theory on it, I did the same thing with my 07 Acura TL Type-S. Took out the 8" sub, tapped into those wires that go to the stock sub, used a line output converter to get the RCA jacks and dropped in a 10W3V3. I never changed my component speakers though because just like the 4runner the stock speakers were 2 ohm and it had an amp too so I didnt really feel like rewiring all the speakers and putting in a new amp and everything.

I'm not sure adding bass blockers would give you the overall sound your looking for.

I picked up a soundgate LOC that passes only the low frequencies to the mono bock amp.
