Mileage "unknown" pristine condition; concerns?

I am going and looking at a 99 limited, looks brand new, inside and out. No known issues. I guess it was reporting 100,000 miles, then "unknown" I would have it checked out, of course, but wondering if for insurance reasons or resale reasons, I should avoid.

I would be a little hesitant with that. But I am always picky with my cars.

Went and looked, probably 300,000 miles or more. One checked off

I HATE it when people lie on their for sale ads! Before I bought my 03 I went to look at a 00 limited. The ad said it was in great shape, no accidents, everything worked perfectly blah blah blah. I got to the truck, the front end had be replaced, right side quarter panel had been repainted, I put the bad window down and it would only go back up half way. I'm mean frig, what has the world come too!

so why not have the seller get it inspected by a Toyota dealer up front? I mean save me a trip...right? I went two hours yesterday (so did seller) to look at a vehicle that if it were a house would have been condemned. Scarey part is they drove it home. I am grateful for TD and hope I have better luck...but seriously, that is a good way to have it checked out right? They really saved me some serious grief...

Just an fyi, my 4Runner operated perfectly up until the minute it didn't anymore. There was no long slow warning or a lack of maintenance, it just worked perfectly and then as I was driving down the freeway with 199,800 miles on the odometer it lost power. Long story short I had a cracked head.

I would avoid buying a 4Runner with > 120,000 miles.
