Mini VCI Troubles

I'm not sure if this has been addressed or not but I thought I would try and see if I could get some help on a problem I'm having. I've seen info for newer toy's but nothing closer to my year. I just recently purchased the toyota techstream software and mini vci cable on ebay but I cannot get the software to see my 3rd gen t4r. I'm not sure what the deal is but I've tried everything and was wondering if it was just an issue of my toy being to old for this software? has anyone had any luck using this software/cable setuP. would love to hear from anyone who has this working. I'm fighting the dreaded p0420 code and want to try and get as accurate information as possible to diagnose the issue before I have to deal with the cat.

sorry but have you tried "advanced" searching for the code?

paste this into google:

Code:
site:toyota-4Runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/ p0420

Inch by inch step by step

Actually it wasn't the code that I was trying to get info on, it was the mini vci cable.
I've probably read every article and watched every you tube video available on the p0420 code. It's amazing how many vehicles are affected by this code. I also find it interesting that in most cases it wouldn't be economically viable to make the repair based on the dealer cost to fix the problem. To much of a kawinki dink in my opinion.

I've owned toyotas since 1986 and many of them. Although they still make a superior product I've watched the quality go down hill year by year. Fortunately my runner is not my primary vehicle so I have the luxury of taking my time and methodically figuring out the issue with the p0420 which brings me to the vci cable. I want to see exactly what is going on.
