Minor accident. What would you do?

You should never talk to this guy again and deal with your insurance agent only. Don't **** with this. You should have called the police the second he refused to hand over insurance information.

Nevermind, I see you took his money already. Terrible, terrible mistake. You just let yourself get bullied. And you can't file a claim now. You took his money and gave him a receipt. It's over. He could actually sue you if you file a claim now.

Yeah I guess in hindsight I should’ve called the police when he refused to show me his insurance. Still semi happy with the $500 cash at least.

Glad you got it somewhat resolved, but I would never have patience for someone like that. I wouldn't have accepted the money either, out of principle. It's like selling something on craigslist. If I agree on a price before meeting and the buyer shows up with less, he can eff off.

That being said, I have been on the other side of the accident where I am at fault and the other party was nice and willing to work with me.

He got off easy... but $500 in your pocket isn't bad either.

That said, when dealing with jokers like that… sometimes it’s more about the principal than the money.

If I was in your shoes with him trying to short change me $100, I would have probably just told him I prefer to go though insurance at this point and dropped it. If he presented the additional $100, I would have told him the new price is 1k.

Well that sucks. If a Prius hit my truck...there'd be no witnesses. Just sayin'. They're always trying to kill me when I ride my bikes, or walk with my daughter, in SEATTLE!!!
Seriously though, I had a red minivan swipe the front of my truck when I took my daughter to the park. She just moved the van farther forward when she realized what happened. Her vehicle said this was not the first time. I just buffed it out and took photos and stuff. Just wasn't worth the aggravation at the time. Be well, deep breaths.

well at least you got some cash...

i got hit at an intersection once: guy gets out of the car and says 'im sorry i was on my phone.' i go 'no problem,' called the police and asked for insurance info. police show up and say theres nothing they can do - and heres the real curve ball - the dumb ass said he didnt want to hand over insurance because he was an employee at local dealership transporting a brand new car and that if it got written up theres no doubt he would lose his job and they couldnt sell the car as new. given i was in a true pOS JETTA WAGON 2.SLOW surfmobile i really didnt care about it too much and just needed a headlight and grill perhaps, i decided to be the nice guy and they fixed it where he worked for free - and didnt fire him because he never had to officially write it up. crazy...who crashes a brand new car from a new car dealership they work for??

AAA is giving me the option to still file the claim with no repercussions aside from having to give the $500 back as it will be deducted from the final repair costs.

I kind of want to go ahead and file even though I’ll lose the $500. I’ll get a new bumper, new baby car seat, and some peace of mind with this shithead.

Don't go through insurance if you can avoid it. People say it being 95% will lower resale value forget that reporting it to your insurance company will lower the resale value a hell of a lot more. Anyone that chooses to run Carfax will see the accident on the report and may or may not believe you that it was just a little tap.

Needless to say, the police would have to not be involved too. Regardless, I currently have 281K miles on my 06, and intend to drive it until it dies ... so I don't really care about the impact to my resale value as I never intend to resell. To each his own ...

Do not wet sand, you will end up with a bigger problem than you have now.

Skip the detail shop and Buy a griots garage buffer, pep boys has them on sale for $129 or a porter cable 7424xp a couple of buffing pads and some polish, start with the least aggressive product.

Most if not all of the white paint will come off. You may be left with scratches and it looks like the bumper cover is dented. You will have a great buffer that will last for years and can have a great looking swirl-free finish on your 4runner.

Check out autogeek, autopia car care products or detailed image. (Autogeek has some great how to videos).

Blackfire One Step, HD Speed and mckees37 360 are all great polishing products. Pep boys also has some griots garage products on sale. Good luck.

I think that part "Bumper" is around $300.00 from Toyota. It comes unpainted. The paint job may be around $200.00 ?

I had a bicyclist run in to a car I owned, causing minor damage. My insurance company recommended filing a claim and then they would pursue the bicyclist on collecting for the damages. While it was the easiest way of handling it on my end little did I know that when I went to sell the car later, Carfax showed the car was involved in a collision, tainting its no-accident history.

Considering the extent of the damage on your 4Runner and despite how enraging the situation is in your dealings with the a-hole and wanting to hold him fully accountable, if it were me I'd probably just move on from here and let it go. You've spent a lot of time and stress already. Just have it repaired (like others said it can be done for less than the $500) and not file a claim, avoiding hurting your cars accident history report.

I just got rid of some paint transfer on my rear door.
It was worse than yours.

Buy some WD-40 and a Mr Clean Magic Eraser....
soak th paint real good with the WD-40...
let it soak in and scrub it with the Magic Eraser.
Repeat as needed.

Here is Pennsylvania, we have No-Fault insurance....
so I would have to pay my own deductible.
For me, it was much smarter to fix it on my own.

While we're talking insurance, it's usually a bad idea to use an insurance company's "recommended" or "partner" repair shops. I found out the hard way that when you do that, the shop views the insurance company as the customer, not you. I had a 4-door sedan at the time and that thing looked like a high school auto shop practice project when I got it back. I had to fight USAA for months to get it adequately fixed and note that word - "adequately." It was never close to the same again.

And don't be fooled by "guaranteed" repairs. One headlight had to be replaced, and sure, they kept replacing it over and over when it would fog up or fill with water again, but you're still taking your own time to bring it in and so on. I think it was the third time back to the second shop I used (I refused to go back to the original one) when the guy said, "Look, man, you having to come back again and again is ridiculous. I'm only authorized to use these cheap-s**t aftermarket headlights but I'm going to use an OEM headlight this time and we'll just eat the difference." Can't tell you how much I appreciated the one person I dealt with in that whole disaster who seemed to give a damn.

USAA is seen as this great service-oriented company. Yeah, well, no. I got T-boned by some jackass who was going 40 mph out of a parking row in a theater parking lot. The impact knocked my car up onto a curb and left it resting there. One thing the first repair place missed was damage to the radiator bottom crossmember that eventually caused more problems. I brought the car to a dealer near my house and they found the damage and replaced the crossmember.

USAA sent an adjuster who looked at it and said, "We're not paying for this. This guy ran his car up on a curb and he's trying to blame the accident so we'll pay for it." That's nice when your insurance company, who had the accident report and pics of the site showing where my car ended up, calls you a liar. Trust me, they paid for it. I then pulled my insurance and other accounts and haven't spent a dime with them since that happened in 2002.

sad^ sounds like the VA.

thanks for your service. too bad youre not undocumented im sure you would receive the highest priority and services.

I've heard nothing but terrible things from USAA when people actually need to use them or get an accident where the other party is at fault and they have USAA.

But the people in the commercials really seem to love them....

Rear ended while parked, he was going probably 7-8mph trying to park next to me. Bumper scratched. Not sure if there is any further damage.

$940 estimate. The dude took 2 days of phone calls before he would fork out his insurance provider. If the estimate goes over $1000 he loses a point and his insurance goes up. He keeps giving me the run around of letting his friend paint it for me and he would drive me around town while my car is getting fixed. Not to be racist but the dude comes across as a high anxiety stressed Russian constantly telling me to lie to the insurance if it goes over $1000 and what not.

He offered me $500 cash to not say anything and I live with a 4” scratch on the bumper.

Should I take the money or should I go through insurance and file a claim just in case there is further damage? I could use $500 cash and I can live with the scratch unless there ends up being frame damage.

Dude sounds like a repeat offender who is a danger to everyone on the road. Sounds like he expects to get away with it without consequences.

You can lose your insurance coverage for not reporting any accident.

With these two things I would most definitely put it through insurance. If you have Collision coverage you can file through your own and they'll go after the other driver for you.
