Misc. questions about my new 2001.

Replaced the rear hatch cargo light tonight, and the switch is on the "door" position. It only comes on when you open the actual rear hatch door, and not with any of the passenger doors. Is this standard, or should it light when any door is open. Also, is the glove box light located behind what looks to be a plastic grille of some sort on the top of the insided of the box. The glovebox light that I found for my truck are tiny, and I have no clue where they go, lol. And last but not least, when changing the oil, is there a crush washer/gasket that needs replaced on the plug for the pan. I have read somewhere, some do and some don't. And does anyone have any thoughts about the high mileage engine oil, and if it is possible to cause leaks that you wouldn't have known about otherwise similar to full synthetics getting past aging seals and whatnot. Thanks in advance guys.

idk how to do that, but i know why toyota made it that way, they did it because if your not ascessing the tailgate your most likely not going in the cargo area.

you can rewire it, but that involves pulling the head liner out and doing all that. i wanted the map lights and both dome lights to light up when i opened the doors but its not worth the work

Thanks bullet. I definitely don't need it bad enough to go through that but it would have been nice none the less. Any info on the crush washer/gasket when changing the oil? I've never used or had to replace one of these before. My previous trucks and jeeps would simply screw the plug back in and roll.

i may be mistaken but i believe you are referring to the small washer that is on the oil drain plug? if so i just replace mine every time i change the oil seeing as how they are $2 for 2 of them. also when changing the oil, easiest way to get to the filter is to turn your wheels and tires all the way to the left, and go in from the wheel well.

as of right now im using full synthetic oil and i just hit 160k miles. you can use high millage to get the seals to swell, but just regular conventional oil should do you just fine
