Hey guys, so I have a question, I have a miss in my engine, to where no matter if im accelerating or on Cruise on the highway, I have a miss that feels like it loses power (feels like you buck a hair when it does), but only loses it for a split second & keeps going, doesn't even disengage my cruise. I think I may have a bad fuel injector, & i also know tgat I think I have a bad starter, from when I turn on the engine it sounds like its trying to cough a bird out of a dryer chute when it catches & turns on... But could the fuel injector cause the miss like that, or do you think it could maybe be a perferation in the head gasket? My buddy whos the master mechanuc that helps me on my truck wants me to leave it with him a couple days to drive & find out, but I don't have another vehicle.. Opinions? Thanks guys!

By thevway, it doesn't miss constantly, but maybe every couple of days, but seems to.be becoming more frequent.

Is it a miss or a stumble? If you're missing on one cylinder, that's a much different thing than random momentary power loss.

check the EGR

A bad EGR valve air leak would cause your symptoms.

If you've got a cylinder missing (ie, not firing), it's a very distinctive pattern. More than one cylinder missing could sound more like a stumble, but there'd still be a pattern. A stumble is random misfire or incomplete fire across all cylinders, with no pattern.

I don't think it sounds quite like that. You can hear what seems to be a fuel injector going bad when it idles, but havent bought new injectors yet

So im going to ressurect this thread for the sake of diagnosing the problem. I think it may be my throttle (actuator(?) I believe).... It gives that random miss when driving & it will suddenly on a day when i dont drive it for awhile & turn it on it will start missing as if it wants to die. Comments?

it shouldn't be your throttle body, but maybe the daspot (black thing where the throttle sits on at an idle). could also be a wire problem... at which point i would just offer it to bonfire it... I hate wiring. However did you actually change anything in the time passed??

I accidently sparked my engine haha that was back in dec or nov. I think my starter is a little bad being that it makes that sound as if a bird went through a chute when you start it. But, i notice my check engine light (itll randomly turn on sometimes, & turn off) went out & came back on when it would do the "miss" driving, and it'd sound like the engine gets a little deeper noise when it does it, as if there is a vacuum leak or so & loses its power during the miss. i still cant figure out what it is, possibly i need new fasteners on the throttle body or hoses, could be getting loose?

is it possible to get a picture of your engine and such, also is it possible to catch the 'miss' on video? It could help in trying to diagnose.

Bringing this thread back to life as the problem went away for awhile after i figured out i had a melted efi relay and the truck had actually quit on me while working. The problem isn't actually a miss, but like my mechanic likes to call, it 'falls on its face' because the acceleration will die, then come back up after a second or two. I also noticed 2-3 times now at idle, it got so low that it died, and once I actually tried to rev it up a little, and the motor still killed. No problems starting back up. Any suggestions?

I just recently had some engine work done. (blown HG). When I got it back it was running kinda rough and stumbling on acceleration. I searched this and other sites for suggestions and this is what I came up with.

1) search under the hood for and loose, cracked or kinked vacuum lines. mine had a couple.
2) check and clean the MAF and throttle body/TPS and related wiring.
3) move then to fuel fuel delivery. filter, pump, injectors etc.

For me theres no better way to know your vehicle than to get up close and intimate with all the nooks and crannies:biggrin2:

Keep searching and eliminating things one by one. Good Luck

Finally figured yours out? I do have some old hoses that I've been replacing out, now I just need the mind-**** of hoses in that big.group behind the fuse box to replace lol. I actually bought a CAI to put onto it which will replace the entire throttle body & airbox, etc. the only other thing I'd think of is that I believe one of my fuel injectors is ticking a little.
