Miss your 1st Gen?

Dirtco, WTF is with that dash! its like something from back to the future, i love it! was that stock? now i want a turbo runner!

Yeah, that was an option on the Turbo SR5's.

After black ice : Went off the road sideways at 55mph, flopped on the side, popped back up, and somehow dug the front end into the ditch to stop me. Fired right up, nearly drove out of the ditch. Sad sad day for me.

My hilux went down the road problem free for a long time. Awesome.

I really don't miss the back ache and my knees being chest high going down the road.

I know this is an old thread but recently I've been really wanting a 1st gen. Now that I'm finally 'done' building my 3rd gen I feel that I've gone as far as I can with it. I had an 88 Toy PU in HS and have always had a soft spot for that body style. Not to mention the PU from Back to the Future.

Am I crazy to want to sell or trade away my built 3rd gen for a 1st gen SA?
 
I had a red '89 SR5 - 5 speed.
Loved it. I really miss the fold down tailgate and the old pull & turn parking brake.
I also miss those old VW style vent windows.
I don't however miss the manual locking hubs.
Sold it in '98 with 288,000 for $5500!

Haha, welcome to the club. If I was single I'd have sold my 3rd gen already and be riding in a 1st.

If I could I would but it's a matter of funding and timing. Since my 3rd gen is freshly built and it great condition, it's at it's highest value now. I could sell it and buy a decent 1st gen with some $$ to spare.

When I originally got my 3rd gen I needed it to tow and it was my DD. That's no longer the case so to have a well built 1st gen weekender toy would awesome.
 
My poor first gen :(

I just sold my 1st gen last November, thought it was going to a good home. I owned her for 12 years! Many of good memories, never let me down. But I made a huge mistake!

In three months the new owner has crashed her two times, yes twice, in three months!! What have I done! A perfect no rust, prestien top 1st gen now forever ruined.

I pray, the 4runner gods forgive me.
I do love my 5-speed highlander, but man it hurts somewhere deep down to know my first baby is being abused.

I feel a black ops recovery mission is in the making! :spy:
 
I just sold my mint 87' and bought a 99' I love them both for varying reasons, essentially first gen was more fun 3rd gen is WAY more comfort.
 
I never owned a 1st gen 4Runner, but still have an 85 pickup... sure wish I could afford to put an engine and tranny back in her...
 
Really miss my 86. Rebuilt her from the ground up. Nothing was untouched.

Ended up selling her in 09-2012 for $4000 with 320,000 mi.

There's a 86-89 pickup right by my house I've been eyeing up for over a year now. It just sits there and never moves. I was gonna stop by today to try and buy it but they weren't home.

Actually I know where 2 are...
