Mmmm Mustang...

I don't know how many Mustang fans we have on this site (other then myself) but have any of you been following the 2007 Shelby GT500 talk? My uncle just put himself on the waiting list at 6 different dealers. Every dealer he talked to said they each were only going to get between 4-10 cars (depending on the area), so production is going to be very limited.

When he put himself on the list he was around the 15th-20th person waiting everytime. They all told him that a lot of people are joining the list even if they know they aren't planning on getting it anyway. A supercharged 5.4L matched with a 6-speed tranni. Man that's gonna be a nice toy.

the car looks sick. my friend is thinking about buying one. i should tell him to get on the list though now if he's serious. he's also been toying w/ the idea of getting a Magnum SRT8 or Charger SRT8. he just sold his '02 Lightning and got a Silverado SS and i think he wants something faster.

while i think the 'stang has much better looks, i'd drop the cash on a new Z06.

Yeah it's definately a good looking car. They're saying "under $40,000" for now, not sure how true that'll be come shipping time. The Magnum and Charger are both quick cars too. My biggest gripe with them though is they only come in automatic! That much power at your fingertips and they only offer an automatic 4 or 5 speed transmission? That's kind of insulting.

Sounds like your buddy is really into fast trucks. If he likes Dodge then maybe he should check out the Ram SRT/10. 500 hp, 525 lbs of torque coupled with a 6-speed tranny. Has the 8.3L V10 Viper engine in it. That thing is a freaking beast! I think that truck is what put the Lightning out of production.

Yeah, if he's seriously interested in the GT500 though I would tell him to get on the list for it at as many dealers as possible.

i'm sure the Mustang will be more than $40k when it hits dealers. also, you have to figure the dealers will be selling them way over sticker price too.

i hear ya about the automatics. maybe they don't have a manual strong enough? i remember reading something like that for a bunch of different cars and it always struck me as odd.

yeah, my friend drives like an old lady, but he LOVES fast cars. his Lightning was awesome. i think he was sad to see it go, but w/ the GM family discount, his truck getting old and the way it handled in the snow, he decided to get rid of it. i know the SS wasn't his ideal choice, but for the time being it'll serve him well. i know he wants a Magnum SRT8 real bad, but they're only rear drive (Hemi comes w/ AWD as an option) and he doesn't wanna deal with that in the snow.

he knows about the SRT10, but again, same situation w/ the traction and i don't think he drives stick (although the extenda cab comes auto only). i've thought about getting one myself, but i can't fathom paying about $55k+ for a Dodge product. maybe used i'd get one, but def. not new.
