Moaning noise.

I've been having a moaning noise coming from my passenger front wheel area whenever I turn the wheel a couple revolutions to the right side.

Don't know how to describe it, but I think it started after I high centered the truck, and it was resting on the transfer case. I can't see any damage to the transfer case though.

Any ideas?

Truck specs in the sig.

Oh I get that all the time when my wife is doing .... while we are driving and I turn the wheel.

:p

Hey...I bet I made you smile!

could it be possibly be the power steering pump? mine would groan too.... found the pump was leaking and low on fluid...just a thought.

That was my immediate guess, but the levels were normal. The noise seems to have gone away now that the temperature has warmed up to about -20. Maybe the -40 weather was thickening the fluid enough to not circulate properly?

i'm pretty sure it's the power steering. on the 3.0 the pump is on the passenger side. on my 22re, the pump is on the driver's side and i get the same sound when it's cold. my saab also makes that sound when it's cold out. the saab garage said that it was normal for the power steering to moan in the cold. i'm assuming it's also normal for the toyota, but i haven't taken it to a mechanic to verify that.

Cold Power Sterring Fluid

I live in southwestern Ontario Canada and its been very cold here lately, -30 or so. Every vehicle, Ford, VW, GM, Toyota, etc., has been making noise when turning.
