Mobile One and gas mileage?

Ever since the oil change at 5000 with the Mobile One the gas mileage recorded on the computer has been slowly but steadily creeping up. I hadn't been messing with the computer for a while, so it had lots of miles on it and had settled in, in terms of the MPG reading.

What I'm not clear on is whether it was simply the oil change that did it or going to a synthetic? I'm getting the gas from the same place all the time so I don't think it's that.

Any thoughts?

How has the weather been lately? Could that be helping with the MPG? When I switched to Mobil 1 my milage appeared to go up as well, but over the long term it really didn't change at all.

its more than likely your driving style as synthetic oils have been shown time and time again to show little to no improvment in mileage.

I don't know that it isn't something other than the Oil. But in terms of driving habits, if anything I'd say I'm a bit more aggressive. It is warmer though, do temps have a big effect?

Maybe the computer has gone wacky?

Weather, gas mixture (winter gas) and it sounds like you truck is getting broke in. They can all have an effect on gas mileage.

The OEMs have already gone the extra effort with oil using SAE 30 and even SAE 20 viscosities. Synthetic has no effect.

Yes, temp will positively influence mileage. There are several factors at play and I believe these have been discussed.

I accidentally swiched back to dino on my last oil change. I also a "slight" drop in gas mileage. But, is the difference in gas mileage worth the cost difference between dino and synthetic? Not even close, synthetic is much more $$. Your mileage would need a drastic change to make up the price difference you'd see at the pump.

On a side note, the truck idols better with synthetic, I will switch back to full synthetic next change.

Yeah I'm not using the synthetic for the gas mileage, I'm using it as I hope to keep the vehicle, for many, many miles.

What about simply that it's running cleaner oil with that first oil change?

If you mean the trip computer below the radio, there have been many threads debating the accuracy of its information. You could still be seeing an increase, but I'd double-check it using the trip odometer and the amount of gas the pump says you actually put in.

I am not sure what region you are in, but when they switch back to summer gas here in the northeast, I got 1.5 MPG more.
