Mod: FJ Cruiser strut on a 4Runner w/ ToyTec lift

I've pretty much made up my mind on getting a ToyTec lift. They send out coils for front and rear on the option I'm leaning toward. But I've heard that others here have installed FJ suspension on their 4Runners with no issues. I found a guy who's taken the struts & shocks off his 07 FJ since he did a whole brand new suspension lift. (Wish I had the $$ to do that.) Anyway, I can get those struts at a good price, but before I do, I wanted to know if they will work. Since I'm putting new coils on the front, figured I may as well replace the struts with something that can handle the 3" lift.
Also, whilst we are on the subject. Do I need to do the Diff. drop mod for this 3" of lift? Or is that another way to ink out some more money from the owner?

I don't know which weight front coils to go with, but I honestly don't think I'll ever get a ARB bumper, so will stick with the stock front weight.

I would just get the 5100's and keep them at stock setting when you install the coils. Then you would have a upgrade even over the FJ shocks. Plus the shocks will be the right length. The diff drop is not needed when doing that setup. It help with the angles of the driveline but the lift is not enough that you would need it.

It sounds like your headed for a great setup. I agree with Bowtie on teh FJC struts vs the Bilstiens. If the FJC struts are super cheap maybe... What I don't know is if the FJC struts are actually stiffer than your stock V8 T4R struts. The fit isn't your challenge. Whether they'll have more or less dampening is the question. I don't know the answer. If you had a V6 then I'd say do it! The FJC struts would be an improvement. On the V8??? I don't know.

Thanks fellas. Guess I'll shop for Bilsteins then. I was going to get those FJ shocks & struts for less than $20. But like you said Chris, I don't know if they'd handle the weight of the v8. I'm trying to allieviate breakage from these mods, so no use putting something in there that's only going to fall apart sooner!! If one of you v6 guys want the hook up for the FJ parts, let me know and I'll post the info.

Hey...if any of you know some one who wants these lighted Limited boards, give me a holler pls. See post in the classifieds section. I need to sell those to buy the lift. Well, I'd rather do it that way. They are going on Ebay & Craigslist this weekend if no one here wants them. My 4Runner friends here get first dibs!!

"Good morning,
These shocks will work on the front as long as they are set on the stock setting since you are going to be running an aftermarket spring..
These shocks are close to the stock length...
They were designed to change the ride height and will only Increase wheel Travel by a minimal amount...
Let us know if there is anything that we can help you with... "

If you you looking for a great lift that includes shocks and new springs MADE for you vehicle ..I keep telling Everyone to take a serious look at the OME Kits they are by far the best bang for the buck about $700 and Boom your done ....

Hmmm....more research needed.

They are longer than stock for the bigger spring you are putting in there. You have to keep them at the stock setting...you can gain lift with these but not recommended because of CV angles. They do give a little articulation over the stock stuff but that is what you want. I have done a ton of these and this is the best setup with the Toytec springs IMO. I"m going to use this exact same setup with the billy's out back in my 4R. You can call me at the shop if you have any questions tomorrow....I may be able to get you a deal also....who knows as Toytec does have the stuff at a great price.

Thank you. I know many are very happy with OME, and I am familar with their products. Good stuff, and I once considered sending them the molah. Some Toytec kits include OME coils. BTW, Love your GSD pic here!! Always have. Currently have my Mom's GSD begging I share my crackers, with the occasional nose poke to the arm...just in case I forgot she's boring holes in the bowl with her gaze!

I have 3 GSD 1 is Level 2 and 2 are level 1 protection only....We do Bite work as a Hobbie.....Can always use someone new as an agitater !!! :biggrin2:

Oh Wow...I miss that. I grew up with working dogs, mostly GSD's, that my Mom trained and showed for personal and law enforcement k9's. I fondly remember biking the endurance part trot through San Francisco park or alongside the frontage road near Dumbarton Bridge in the Bay Area.
My Dad, being near 6' tall and stocky, was always the agitator. Have to be when a flying mass of fur and teeth hit you at full stride! We don't do it anymore, but I know Mom misses it.
