mod request: tilted radio

Has anyone done this?

I would like to mod the stereo housing assembly so it can hold my aftermarket 1U CD Deck but at a small tilt.

My previous stereo the alpine had a built in tilt feature. That deck is gone and the ones on the market today don't offer such features.

I can either just live with the faceplate being totally flat or can try to mount the deck so that the faceplate is at a angle.

Why: because when tilted it is legible and no (or less) glare.

This would involve taking out the metal unit that the stereo attaches to and trying to screw, bolt or otherwise attach it at an angle. No welds allowed.

Need suggestions! (and pics)

ahem

so sixty views and not one bit of advice. for shame.

I guess I will end up will up the first person to do this mod.

When I installed mine I treid to see if it was possible to give it a slight tilt. since it does sit low .

But it just looked stupid, and I wouldnt be able to live with a ugly install.

Heres mine now,

I'd like to see some more pictures and setups for stereo installs!!! I think you could use some sort of shim/spacer to get the angle you want when you are installing it....How much of an angle are we talking about anyway? I think that if you go for too much it will be really noticeable as mentioned above. I do know what you mean about the tilt feature, I have that on my Panasonic deck and I have it titled just a bit for glare, etc.

the old one:

Here is the one that died, electric tilt feature built in .... :(

Uploaded with ImageShack.us ** stop using photobucket people!

The new one is going to also be a 1U (vs. a 2U which is double din in radio speak) but it doesn't tilt. I figure I will tilt it somehow and get a flat faceplate for the slot underneath. One of my main worries is the CD player will then be spinning "off balance" and this might damage it over time.

I don't think it will cause any issues with the CD player overtime.....You will always be driving at different elevations/grades, etc...It's never just completely level, so the CD player is built to play practically upside down I bet....

great ...

@maxspeed96ct - I see why in your case it would not be possible. I am hoping that since my head unit isn't "full size" that it won't look funny. In fact I am hoping it looks exactly like the picture of the one I had before.
