I wanted to use the fog light switch on the turn signal arm of my 2002 Limited to run my driving lights since I don't have fog lights on my ARB bumper. The problem is that the fog lights only run on dim and I want the driving lights to run any time.
Here's the mod.
Cut the Green/Black wire on pin 16 of the DRL control module and ground it (not the connector end but the wire to the connector). This provides a ground that doesn't get cut when the brights are on.
Remove the fog light relay from the fuse box under the hood.
Connect one side of the driving light relay coil to connector 5 on the fog light relay plug. Connect the other side to connector 2 of the fog light relay plug. Connector 5 provides 12V (fused by the fog light fuse) to power the relay. Connector 2 provides a circuit to the fog light switch, which will provide the ground for the relay when it's on (through the Green/Black wire cut from the DRL module and grounded).
The switched side of the relay gets power from the battery (through a 15-amp fuse) to power the lights. It would be possible to get power from the 15 amp fog light fuse (connector 5) as well, but I already had it wired from the battery so I just used what I had. The fog light fuse is 15 amp and I might want to go with higher powered lights and need more current (20 amp or more) so I wired that to the battery through its own fuse. See the schematic and pictures for details.
The only downside is that the driving lights don't shut off when you dim the brights, but for off-road lights that's not really an issue.
