Modular roof ceiling storage?

Hey guys,

I've been trying to find more storage areas for my 2002 SRS 4runner. I am considering adding more storage to the trunk with some plywood (possibly a drawer system) or just adding some sort of modular ceiling storage system. A ceiling storage system that can hold a decent amount of weight.

I know there are those "ceiling" nets, but those tend to sag down when they have anything in them and they can't hold much weight. I am on a budget, so anything under $100 would be great. Also I don't want to be drilling into a ton of things.

Here are a couple pictures of examples I'm talking about, but if anyone else has anything unique in mind, please give me a heads up!

It depends on what your trying to carry but I would say go with the drawer system. You can build a lot of functionality into one and then your stuff is secure in the event you get in an accident. Look around in some build threads, there's plenty of ideas out there

Okay, thanks for the suggestion. Although the only downside to that is when I put my rear seats down and need a flat bed, the drawer system would be higher than the original level. I might just add drawers over and around the wheel wells which would look nice.

I know you said you're not keen on netting but Raingler Nets - Toyota has mil-spec net webbing style above storage options. Not specifically for a 3rd gen but they have other models like the FJ you might could retrofit.

That gives me an idea. I think I will try building a rack to mount to the headliner retainer clips out of my 2x2 steel mesh.
