Mojave Preserve

Looking for input on 2 locations in the Preserve. I'm going through Thursday on the way to Bullhead City/Laughlin.

Zzyzx - Desert Research Center and the old Spa area
Is it a worthwile scenic trip or nothing much to see?

Cima Ghost Town --Has anyone been and is it worth going to?

I have already been to the Lava Tubes, Hole in the Wall, Kelso Depot and Kelso Dunes. Any suggestions on other areas will be appreciated.

I would like to go back to the Lava Tubes with a few others and go down into the tube and cavern on a future trip.

I would love to do a Mojave trip. I have no input on what to see out there as I've never been. But if your looking for people to go with you I'd be up for coming along. I figure late winter early spring is time to go before it warms up to much.

The Mojave road is the real 4 x4 trip from the river back to Baker/Barstow area. El Gringo Loco led a group recently and there may be another one before summer.

My trips in the Preserve have been easy, scenic drives on mostly good graded roads.
It's interesting and I get my dirt fix on the way to the river to visit family. I'm in OC and it's about 200 miles, so an overnight camp is needed to do much.

I thought That hostel at zzyzx was cool. nasty ponds with weird fish, a big dry lake bed, some weird day spa ruins and then the main building. I stayed there for a night on a trip for school. It was an epic place to party. Probably not that cool unless your with 15 other drunk geologists....

There are lava tubes at pisgah crater just off the 40 and not too far from that zzyzx inn. Its a little hike from the parking to the tubes, and sucks if its hot. Its not marked were to go. You will know you found the main one if you end up at a log book inside.
