Mojave Road planning advice...

Hey guys,

A few friends and I will be running the Mojave Road from West to East next week. I have been planning this trip for a couple months now, and I think I have all the maps, guide books (including Dennis C's book), and paper maps I need. I even found a website that has the road with waypoints:

GPS Map of the Jojave Road

I have a few remaining questions though:

1. Has anyone run the MR this year? Could I get a .gpx of your trip? I can furnish my email via PM...

2. Does today's rain shower mean I should bypass Soda Lake? How bad do you guys think the lake surface will be after a rainstorm like we just had?

3. How well marked is the turnoff to Caruther's Canyon?

Any help is appreciated, thanks!!

I forgot to mention that I have will have a hand held CB (for car to car communication); and a handheld Yaesu VX-8..

What frequencies have you guys used for HAM? Is there a repeater that covers MNP?

Sorry I didnt see this thread earlier, not that I would have been much help though.

How was the trip? I have been reading about the Mojave road and it is one of the trips I would like to do in the future.

Hi Pikeman,

The trip was "ok". Running the Road West to East was not the ideal way to go, and we got lost coming out of Afton Canyon, and had to backtrack to the road, losing two hours in the process.

However, once back on the road, I found it to be very easy and pretty scenic. Quite a few people running the road that weekend, but we had no problems finding some really nice campsites.

If I had to do it over again, I would run it East to West, and follow the Mojave Road book.
