Moly Disulphide, WTH?

Lubricating prop shaft calls for 2 types of grease: a) Lithium Base NLGL No.2 b) Molybdenum Disulphide Lithium NLGL No.2. Now, where can I find Molybdenum Disulphide Lithium grease? Stealer does not sell it and local auto stores only have a) Lithium Base No.2. I do not want to use anything other than specified in manual. Any ideas? Thanks...

Go to your friendly local oil jobber that sells oil and grease for commercial and fleet use. Look around, they are out there and have everything you need, including the grease gun. Need another source, call Red Line, try Amsoil and other suppliers of synthetic oil and grease.

Valvoline makes a synthetic NGLI-2 grease with Moly Disulfide added. I've found it to be readily available at our local Advance Auto Parts stores. This will work for both the U-joints and slip yokes on your truck. I've used it for 75K miles on our '98 4Runner and for 42K on our '03 and have had no problems with either truck.

I'll bet you have a 3rd gen truck. The grease specification for our 4th gen dropped the moly requirement for the slip yokes. I still use the Valvoline synthetic w/moly, though, as it should be better than the plain NGLI-2 stuff.

But why, i thought Moly Disulfide was far superior? Besides now I have to get 2 grease guns (1 for each required Lithium).

I also had problems finding both types of grease. Ended up buying Mobil 1 synthetic grease and using that for both purposes. More about this in a couple of threads in the Maint. area of the board.
