I like them, but I stuck with my 1st gen. cause I knew more and had more experience with it than any other vehicle. I'm still learning more things about it every so often. Plus when driving around, I get more turning heads than I would with a Jeep.

Nothings wrong with the Jeep wrangler, except for lack of cargo space, back seat and left arm room . I still love our 06 Unlimited (wifes jeep)but I couldn't drive it every day. I'm just too wide. Plus , as cool as it is, we have spent more money on the jeep than on the runner. All the money spent on the jeep was fixing worn out stuff, all the money on the runner was on cool mods and proper maintenance. The runner has 129,000 and runs drives like new, the Wrangler with 4.0 6speed with 90k on it, well....not like new. But not horrible either. Its just a machine, but the 4runner is a smooth machine.
You will love the jeep , the little quirks are liveable and as lomg as you don't need to haul a lot of cargo or people you have a sporty little truck that can go anywhere , plus a huge aftermarket selection of parts for it . Plus all the other Jeep guys will wave to you and make you feel special (you aren't, the jeep is just loosing parts as you drive and they are trying to warn you lol )
Keep an eye on uneven tire wear, ours has eaten through tires since new and we can't seem to figure out the problem. Also, full doors with real windows and a hard top helps at least here in CT where the winters are bad for soft tops .As much as I like taking the doors and top off without those I would hate our jeep. As soon as her tax return is in hand its getting a lift and bigger tires.

Ive owned a few Jeeps over the years (77SJ, 88MJ, 93YJ, 97XJ) and currently have a 06LJ. I liked them all. Great power if u got the 4.0. Easy to mod and tons of aftermarket support. Just gotta watch out for the dreaded Death Wobble and the OPDA going out on you. DW usually occurs at btwn 45-55 mph and can be caused by a number of things. OPDA problems occurs in 03 and later 4.0s when they switched to distributorless ignition. A lack of lubrication causes abnormal cam gear wear. Just be aware of it.

Looks like a nice TJ. I had a 97 that I drove off the lot new and just sold it last year after 15 reliable years. Probably should have just kept it. But, I rarely drove it (2000 miles in the last two years) and it was getting some underbelly rust from living on the east coast for a few years. Still had a great resale value so it's gone now. 
Of course, they aren't as refined as a 4Runner. That's either a plus or minus depending on your outlook.
Mechanically, in 15 years I only had to replace brakes, a power steering pump a weird lever for the heater under the dash. It was easy to work on. Easy to maintain - so I did maintain it (that's the trick with most vehicles IMHO).
There was no AC to break. No power window regulators (just zippers). No auto door locks. No rear defroster, no traction control system, no ABS to go bad, none of the 'fancy' stuff that can go wrong with modern cars. Again, that's a plus or minus….
I drove it back and forth across the country a couple of times. Was it comfy? No. Was it an adventure and did it always get me there and home again? Yes.
I loved that Jeep.
Now, I still need to get around to finding an hour to replace the 3rd brake light in the spoiler of my T4R…. And I need to grease my clunking driveshaft again. And one of these days I'll get around to fixing the rattling sunroof….

^ this, 'cept, guy and all xj's ,Zj's and wj's.... if you like it and it's well kept,good running more power to you! just don't start any debates about which one is better and i think you'll be ok owning a jeep around here...still got a yota right?:flock:

Agreed. They're very different purposes.
My Jeep was fun when it was just me and one other person. But by the time I got a kid or two, my wife and the two dogs loaded in the Jeep. There was nowhere for a cooler let alone a tent.
Come to think of it, all those critters wouldn't even fit in a Jeep.
Just different.
Love my 4Runner.
Loved my Jeep. Nothing wrong with having different toys.

I've got no hate for Jeeps, especially Wranglers. I can say this though, if Toyota were to make their own version of the current Wrangler, it would be twice as reliable, twice as smooth, and twice as good looking as anything Jeep is putting out there. The 4runner is essentially Toyota's answer to the Grand Cherokee, and I'd say Toyota has them beat in every category minus the solid axle.

Yes the solid axles are great. The Dana 30 is stronger than it has a right to be and all Unltds. have Dana 44 rears. However my old YJ and Comanche both had the Dana 35 which is the biggest p.o.s. ever put under a 4x. My XJ had the Chrysler 8.25 which is a decent axle. Toyota did make a Jeep equivalent; the FJ-45. And it was superior in every way except for HP. They should bring it back as close to the original as possible. (The FJCruiser ain't it). I'd buy one in a heartbeat!
