Monroe Sensa-Trac Shocks and Struts

I'm currently shopping around for new shocks and struts for my 98 4Runner Limited. Sears is offering free installation on their Monroe Sensa-Trac shocks and struts. With free installation, the parts came out to be $331.96 ($112.99 per shock and $52.99 per strut). This sounds like a pretty good deal, so I'm wondering if any of you guys has the Sensa-Trac, and if so, are you happy with the ride? Thanks!

That is way to expensive esp. for Monroe. You need to shop around, you should be able to get Toyota replacements for that or less.

You're absolutely right about these being overpriced at Sears. Found the shocks each for almost $40 cheaper online:

Out of curiosity, what's a reasonable price that a shop would charge for all 4 installed?

Normally a shop will charge an hour per...so 4 hours x whatever their flat-rate (prob 96-100) makes labor alone around 400 bucks. If you're not a DIY kinda guy I'd say go for it! Can't beat 332 for 4 shocks with installation.

Are these just stock replacement or are they for better ride, lift, etc....?

After putting on 220,000 miles on my 4Runner since 1998, I'm looking around for some replacements since the ride is getting pretty rough lately. Besides the Monroe's, can anyone recommend other brands that they are happy with? Thanks.

if you want just an OEM replacement, Monroe seems to take the cake. Alot of other aftermarket shocks are made to work in conjunction with a lift.

Like I said, $332 for shocks/struts WITH INSTALLATION is an unbeatable price

Let's say I'd like to get about a 2" lift on my '97 runner, would I need longer shocks? Or could I get the same size shocks I have on there now, just new ones? I figure if I'm going to lift mine, I might as well get shocks as well...but I'd rather get shocks first, so if I get shocks for now...should I get bigger ones, or keep them factory size/style?

Can I fit longer shocks on stock? I don't know much about shocks, but this thread has pretty much the same questions I'm wondering. Thanks guys.

i would say you're pretty safe up to 2.5" with the stock length shocks...any taller you may want something a little more stable for the height

Im guessing the pricing you quoted for shocks and struts was backwards, none the less I can't remember what I paid for mine. I did get the monroes and they definitely made for a smoother ride. My ashtray doesn't rattle open anymore.:biggrin2:

I put the sensa tracs on my 2001 and liked them but got bored and switched back to new OEM's. I felt the front Monroes were a little stiffer than expected but would not hesitate to recommend them. ALso I agree that four of them installed for a little over 300 is a very good price. I did the rears myself and paid about 200 for labor on the fronts.
