'Montana Factor' on 3rd gen prices

Seems like 3rd gens are getting more and more expensive here in Montana lately, and this one is no exception. This guy is asking $9000 for a 2002 SR5, 129K miles, V6 auto 4x4.

Thankfully I found my 99 Limited w/ e-locker at 194k miles for only $5600 last year, because I can't find any more decent 3rd's around that price anymore in my area!

He's got a lien on the title, which means he probably paid too much for it and is stuck trying to pay off the loan by selling it at too high of a price. Nobody wants to pay for a car they don't even have anymore.

So glad I don't have any auto loans...

For whatever it's worth, my 4Runner ran me $4200 3 or 4 years ago in Utah.

5-speed 6-cylinder '99 4x4 SR5 with 200,000 miles.

I had to replace the plugs, change the oil, and change the clutch (it was on the OEM clutch).

It's been strange seeing prices *increase* in the past couple years. I was fortunate; 5-speeds are usually hard to come by.

They are more expensive there. We got our 01 Sport in Bozeman. Paid a lot but it had 90k on it and was in great condition. Not one spec of rust either.

Everywhere is where the 3rd gen prices are higher, only because folks that are selling them know that a really good condition one is worth more than average.
So, why not run a high $$$ price for your collision-bent, pink-milkshaked, rust-infested, bent-frame, oil-never-changed, driven-by-a-college-kid 4Runner.
Who knows, some gullible schmoe (who doesn't read this forum) may get caught up in 4Runnermania, and buy it anyway.
Everyone dreams of getting a high price for their now unwanted vehicle...and at least a few do.
