Moog VS. Dana LBJ

so i bought Moog LBJ they were 167.00 for the pair, after checking around more i found a NAPA that carries Dana LBJ for 200$ a pair, is it worth the extra $33 for the Dana, or it worth it to spend the $280 and get the OEM from the stealership?

No idea. Never thought of it. Hopefully someone knows on here. Definitely worth it for OEM LBJs though. The way I see it, my toyota LBJs lasted 218k miles, even at the dealership price that's a steal.

Also I only replaced them because I wanted to. They did not fail on me.
 
there is a strong consensus that the moog LBJs are crap and at least two members suffered a failure within a year of installing them. please don't do it bro!

I have heard the Napa parts are reputible but I would stick with oem.

a simple search search for lbj moog should bring up those threads. after reading about the moog failures, I think you would be crazy to trust your life to a moog LBJ.
 
Thanks for the research on the OEM LBJs I'll defiantly be getting those, not worth the risk to save a quick buck. I thought I heard that Moog had problems but wasn't sure thanks for bring that to my attention!
 
Yeah +1 for OEM LBJ's. Got both sides from the stealership for about $200. Not too bad knowing that I can drive with peace of mind now.
 
I just bought Moog LBJs. They are 555 brand that are made in Japan just like the ones that Napa and many other dealers sell. As far as I know Moog just rebrands the 555 LBjs, but doesn't actually manufacture them. So if you conclude that Moog is crap, then you mean 555 is crap. Furthermore, if you conclude that Moog (555) LBJ is crap because it failed on someone, then you have to conclude that an OEM LBJ that failed on someone is crap also.:hello:

Not entirely correct logic, but it does appear that Moog reman's some OEM LBJ's. I wouldn't trust that the one in the box you get are reman'd OEM, or that the reman'ing job is as good from Moog as it is from Toyota.

BTW, I don't think we have ever seen an LBJ casting fail. It is usually the ball piece that fails by pulling out or shearing off. This part gets replaced when the part gets reman'd, so while Moog might use OEM castings, they may be using inferior balls that fail early.

The conclusion stands, go OEM or at least Napa for quality or a warranty. Be suspicious of Moog, because like was said, several guys here have had VERY premature failures with them, and a failing LBJ can be very dangerous.
 
thanks to chitown i called toyota come to find out my LBJ were replaced at 30,000 miles do to the recall, I'm sitting on 115,000 so i don't think i will be replacing them for a few thousand miles, thanks for the help
 
I replaced my factory LBJ's at 200k with Moogs. I replaced the Moogs after only 27k miles and they looked like the originals after 200k. I paid $80 each for my Moogs when I got them and just recently paid $77 each for factory Toyota ones from ToyotaPartssales.com or Toyota of Houston.

Just so you know I have had very good luck with Moog products on my domestic trucks so not bashing the brand. Just that several have not had the best longevity out of them on our trucks.

I have used Moog parts on American autos and had nothing but success using them, often outlasting the life of the vehicle in my ownership.

I have found out via trial and error as well as from others on message boards that Toyotas really like their OEM parts and not much else.
