Moon roof doesn't close fully

Hi everyone, lately I noticed increased wind noise and when I checked the moon roof wasn't sealing completely in the rear. The roof raises into the roof of the truck as its last movement when closing and mine is now perhaps a 1/4" lower than the rest of the roof. Any ideas on fixing this before the rainy season starts would be appreciated.:)

Thanks,

Ross

Can you still open it? If so the only thing I can think of is to clean the old grease, dirt etc from the track on both sides and then regrease the track. If this doesn't work take it to Toyota as this could be the beginning of problems with the cable. Do a search here, there are a lot of posts on this subject.

Thanks for the reply, you know not only did I do a search on words like, sun roof, moon roof, problem closing sunroof etc, and get zero results, I also searched for a document that I know was on the site a few years ago about programming the keyless entry system and got nothing! When I click on the archives link I get a page not found!
BTW I altered the search for matching any word looked in specific forums, nothing! I haven't been on the site for about a year and it looks kinda empty.

Sorry I have seen this alot lately. Over my time here I have saved as bookmarks many things I knew I would someday need. They all still work and some of them are very old. I wish I could give more specific help but really don't know what else to do. Maybe one of the mods could chime in. One more possibility is to check in the "Problems and Warranty" section under 2003 TSBs. It's the same moon roof as yours. Good luck!

If it's opening and closing properly and not making any strange noises it may be as simple as adjusting the position of the glass. There are 4 torx head screws that hold the sunroof glass in place and they allow for some up and down adjustment. The rear screws may have just come loose and the back part of the glass just needs to be raised up. Hopefully it just needs adjusted and you don't have a problem with the track/motor assembly.

Thanks for the tip, I was wondering about that, I took off the plastic trim so I could get a better look at the assembly and I was wondering about the adjustment, The torx screw I tried to loosen was on really really tight so i didn' want to force/strip anything but I will look at the other side. The roof is moving all the way back, its the going up that seems to be the problem either because its adjusted too low or the cable needs to tug a little more to raise the roof up the last 5/16" of an inch.

Maybe I missed this in the thread, but have you tried normalizing the moonroof? My 2006 4Runner had the same issue and all I had to do was normalize the moonroof and it closed properly.

Thanks but yes first thing i tried

I know this is an hold thread but Im curious if this problem is solved and if so how did you do it. I noticed the same thing but thought nothing of it until i went to the carwash and had some soap suds leak in through the moon roof.

Anyone advice is appreciated.

Mine does this as well, but it hasnt leaked yet. If the increase in wind noise bothers me I will usually press the switch and lower the glass a bit without actually opening it. As long as the window opens and closes im not going to mess with anything.

Hey guys, I would like to bump this up again as well. Just noticed this starting to happen on my 2007 4Runner. No leaks, but it is getting louder and rattling a little bit. Gets annoying if I don't have the shade closed.

And sorry for the stupid question, but was meant by "normalized" as mentioned above. Sorry if that's dumb. Just want to make sure I'm on the same page.

Normalizing is basically holding the button forward and keep holding after the sunroof has closed AND holding it back even when it is fully opened. This is similar to a calibration or zeroing.

Let us know what happens when you do open it though.
