Moonroof / Sunroof do you ever use it ??

I had a 73 MG midget long ago, man the fun I had and the girls liked it to. It's convertible top on some days was just awesome, but so was a lot of things when your a kid.

The "moon roof" (as it is called by Toyota) just doesn't seem to ever have a comfortable time to use it. Even on that perfect weather day the sun hits one eye, it's warm one side of my face and the wind on one side of my face, it is just never comfortable.

Could be the pain meds I guess, or is the moon roof a pain, maybe to small to effect the entire front seats. I guess it seems to effect one side of my face so much it seems awkward.

What is it about a great idea that doesn't seem to work ???

I never use mine as far as ventilation, but I do open the inner cover from time to time on cloudy days to let more light in.
 
If its not raining the roof is open along with the rear window cracked. On colder days the heat is on, and warm days the ac. Day or night.
 
When not too hot, or below freezing, the roof is open, and most times the rear window too. Like a convertible.

To eliminate exhaust oder, I had the exhaust terminate behind the rear wheel mudflap. Eliminated the resonator, but the sound seems the same.

No exhaust fumes. Flow through airstream. Life is good.
 
Mine is open as much as possible. It is also really nice on the 3rd gens that the rear window open to allow for better air flow.
 
I didnt think I would use mine at all (never had one before) but I am growing to really like it. Being able to roll all windows down and open the sunroof make it super fast cooling off the interior on a super hot day, and it feels as nice as driving a convertible with them all down but with the advantage that its NOT a convertible :rofl:
 
I generally don't like them on my vehicles, they take up head room and I view them as a liability due to leak potential. We test drove over with it and I would occasionally hit my head on it.
 
Being on forest roads, on chilly days, with the roof and back window open, listening to the sounds of nature, is a delight.

This. We had 2 must-haves for our 4th Gen - 4WD & a moonroof, and this is why.

I’ve had sun-/moonroofs on numerous vehicles, including an aftermarket install on my ‘79 Cougar (yes, I’m that old), and have never had a leak or issue other than a stubborn squeak/rattle on my wife’s Acura that I’ve chased since we bought the car in ‘06. That’s more of a minor annoyance though.

I will say that riding with it open in north Georgia’s pollen season is a mistake you’ll only make once. Not my pic.

Moonroof was a requirement for me. I loved it on the old 4Runner.

I I open and close the cover and the glass all the time depending on the weather.

It's almost mandatory for me. I have hardly ever had a vehicle with out one.
I feel like I am driving in a tube otherwise. Heck, I would have bought the TRD pro in 2016 if it had one.
Now, my gf has one and does not ever use it, almost hates it. The vehicle package she preferred had one.

Exactly the same with me. The air circulates especially well with the hatch glass down as well. I'm very happy I went with a sunroof model!
 
I use mine all the time. Sometimes in the winter. Also, if a car doesn't have one, I don't even look at it. Flame me, I don't give a f***. I'm mindful of the failures most sunroofs have, as far as I'm concerned, it's all about owner negligence. I lube mine (insert sexual joke here) a couple of times a year. I make sure the channels and cubby space are free of debris. I have yet to have a sunroof die on me. I've had sunroofs in my rides since 1993.
 
Sunroof

I have the 2016 off road premium and when I ordered it the sunroof was a "must have".I use the sunroof daily in conjunction with the rear window open.I love it, the dog loves it--win win!I do close it when off road though for obvious reasons!
 
I miss my 97 Limited dearly, especially the sunroof. That feeling of having the sunroof and the rear lift gate window open on the highway was just sublime.

That being said, I tended not to use it during the daytime since the sun is pretty strong at elevation and I'd sunburn the top of my head frequently, but night time summer driving...sigh...I miss that a lot.
 
the one thing i really wanted in my 2014 when i was shopping was a moonroof...but then i found one that was so heavily discounted, almost $8k under MSRP, that i couldnt pass it up...

and of course it did NOT have a moonroof.


if i had one, i believe i would surely open it up in the spring and summertime, rear window down, and enjoy that breeze on any roadtrip, racetrack run, or even daily commutes.

I use mine frequently during the none winter months. On really hot days the kids and I especially like to open the sunroof as well as the 4 side and 1 rear windows to give an almost convertible type feel. It's a pretty cool feeling actually, give it a try:cheers:
