More rear locker questions

Does anybody make an rear locker that can be disengaged besides ARB and just doing an axle swaps or diff. swaps for the locker?

Aussie is the right price but running it full time seems like a horrible idea.(We can argue this one later if you like)

Also, if you do an diff. swap with an 01 that has the center locker does anything else need to be done? Not familiar with fitting a rear locker with a T4R that already has a center. Center locker is still new to me.

Not one that is worth a crap. I fixed your post for you. :gun6:

you mean other than ARB and Toyota :bigok: Toyota makes a factory Elocker start cruising craigslist for a taco prerunner that has been wreaked and pull the 3rd, modify your rear housing, install the 3rd and then wire a relay and switch and you have factory selectable locker. Sounds easy right. Not to bad really.

Rockdawg84 is right..recently I saw a posting at the local Craigslist for a complete set Rear locker with 4.56 gears down to the dash switch, the guy even had a buddy that sells and installs matching front diff gears, rack & pinion and such..If I did'nt already have one, I'd have taken it..it was cheap too IMO.

Most of the time the factory E-locker swap ends up costing as much as putting in an ARB after finding a good price used and then all the time to modify the housing to fit it, let alone paying someone to do it if you dont have the tools and skills.

I went Aussie for now until I can afford to re-gear and put in ARB's and have been happy with it so far and it works great. I too didn't want a full time locker but am happy I have it for now.

FWIW, I have the LockRight and am very happy. Hard to beat for 230.00$ shipped to the door.. I have had it for almost 10k miles, and wheel it hard. The truck is my DD.. you do notice it but like everything else, you get used to it and forget it's there.

Does the LockRight give the click, click, click like the Aussie does? Shame to hear a swap will run the same as just getting an ARB. Makes that decision much easier. I am assuming the rear locker won't interfere with the center locker.

I shouldn't get to ahead of myself, still saving for the OME kit. Just switched out my sway bar bushing a few days ago. Some improvement but not a ton. I only have 90K. If you are running higher miles I highly reccommend it! Cheap and easy DIY. One quesiton however. Anybody has an easy trick for removing bumpstops?

I added an ARB to mine. Worth every penny. Instant on and off. You can try an obstacle and if you can't make it, stop, hit the switch and then go. It's that fast.

Older 4x4 setups didn't have a center diff. The center diff allows slip inside the transfer case. Basicly turns the 4wd system into all wheel drive so soccer moms can drive in 4wd without destroying the driveline. It will also allow power to go the the wheel with the least traction of all four. If you are wheeling then most people lock the center diff, if not then you will still only have one wheel drive. That is a basic description.

Denver, you should come wheel with us.

Thanks, I understand what rear and center lockers are and how they work. Just wanting to know if a rear locker effects the center locker.

Does the lockright click around corners. Yes it does, and it has all the quirks that you should expect from an auto locker, but after having my lockright in for a few thousand miles and 15 or so wheeling trips, I would have to say that it should have been the first thing I spent money on. It was cheap, and I figured that I could always pull it out and sell it if I hated it. I have been daily driving my 4runner with it and it's fine. The click click click noise is audible with the windows down and only in parking lots.

Try a lockright...I bet you will be fine with it

Thanks for the input everbody! For the price and my budget the Lockright or Aussie will be my choice. Sorry ARB, you're just too good for me.

I have a Aussie too. Love it! Would i prefer ARB sure, but i can spend the other 700$ on Rocker Guards, Body Lifts, CB toys, and stereos!

No. I had an 80 series landcruiser and all of them had center diff locks. Many different types of lockers were used in the REAR with center diff locks....no problem. I recommend an Aussie as it was not that noisy. I thought it sounded pretty cool. Aussie recommends using a heavier dino gear oil to quieten it down though.

lockright/Aussie = Click, Click, Click.. I hardly even notice it now.

Perfect! Thanks.

I checked out some audio clips of the Aussie. Sounds like putting baseball cards in your spokes. Not the most ideal noise but you get used to it.

Do any of you guys who drive on snowy/icy streets have any issues with the Aussie or Lock Right lockers? My wife drives the runner sometimes in the winter and I do not want her sliding out too much.
