I have a 92 4R, auto trans and auto locking hubs. Today for the first time it would not engage into 4x4. The light would NOT come on and the front wheels would not engage. BUT the front drive shaft DID engage and turn. I did a search and found that other members have had this or a similar problem. Some member say it's a problem with a "shift position sensor". Where is this sensor located?
Next question, if I were to install manual locking hubs such as the ones by Warn, would this solve the issue? Is there anyway to override this problem sensor? Today I was out on a trail, getting ready to do a nice climb and I could get it to engage. I tried several times, doing all the routing stuff, shifting in and out of reverse, going down the trail slow, stopping, shutting of the engine and everything else you can think of. It just won't not engage the front wheels and the light would not come on. Then when I get home, I tried it again, and it went right in and the light did come on. I thought maybe installing manual locker hubs would solve this. What do you think?
