I ended up talking with the service manager at the Toyota dealer, who set up a time for the shop foreman to take another look at my alignment. The foreman immediately looked at my lower eccentrics and said only one of them was maxed out, so there must be "something going on here". About an hour later I see my 4Runner drive by, and I'm thinking, oh good he is already done and test driving. Another hour goes by and I still haven't heard anything. I check in with the manager who was helping me and they tell me to come out to the shop.
My 4Runner is on the rack with the foreman underneath. He asks if my wheels are aftermarket, to which I reply no, they are OEM factory wheels from an FJ cruiser. He then states that because my wheels have a different offset and my tires are larger he cannot go off of stock alignment setttings and must start all over on a "custom alignment". I then get the spiel about how they are not an off-road shop and I can't expect them to get my alignment right on my off-road modified vehicle.
At this point it has been over two hours (again) and I wasn't planning on being there longer than that, so I arrange a rental car. I finally get a phone call, now over 5 hours since my appointment time, saying it was ready and the foreman got me in the green at 2.5 caster.
I am a little skeptical of my final numbers, because the time stamp on the report shows 10:30am, which would have been 1.5 hours after I brought the vehicle there, and before he had to "start all over". I don't notice much difference in the ride, other than my steering wheel is finally centered. I was also expecting some new rub on my front fender liners after gaining more caster, but none was noticed. What do you guys think of this total of 7 hours at the Toyota dealer alignment?
