Greetings folks. This is my first post since I didn't feel worthy of posting unil I got back into a 4Runner.
Since I just got my new toy a week ago tomorrow and am looking for some help with some new sneakers for her. A magnificent specimen of beauty she is. We have an '07 4Runner Sport 4WD in Salsa Red. Only took me 2 years of begging crying, slobbering, whimpering, and whining like a little school girl to break the wife down into getting it, but whatever I had to do to get it, I was willing.
So anyway.............
I have narrowed it down to:
Good Year Wranglers with Silent Armor
Yokohama Geolander AT-S
General Grabber AT2 My good God those are some freaking HUGE treads!
I have read all of the threads and was looking to see what people have had for experiences since the last round of tire threads. I figure folks must have put on a lot miles since.
We have just moved back to New England so I anticipate some good snow in the coming years. We also mountain bike and will be kayaking within the year so we need some good tires to get us to those.....um......shall we say......Out of the way places.
I will not by Michelins or BFGs because they are owned by the Frogs. Contrary to a post in another thread, General is owned by Germany and I can deal with that.
I have had great experience with the original General Grabber with my 1991 4Runner and those freaking things took everything we threw at them and asked for more.
We have had great experience in our cars with Yokohama all season tires but have never had a Yoko truck tire. I have read posts about them being great tires, but I am curious for more input.
Never had a set of GYs, but have heard a lot of mixed reviews on them.
I was quoted some very affordable prices locally for them all, but am looking for a bit of help with this.
Also, any thoughts on Nitrogen for the tires? The place I am looking to buy them from offers it (for $6 a tire) with free top offs when needed for the life of the tire. With the drastic temperature and humidity changes in New England from day to day I have a bit of a concern about the moisture collecting within the tire.
Sales manager has informed me of past issues with TPMS units and the moisture collection in the tires requiring repairs or replacements that never occur with the Nitrogen.
Curious if this is a good way to go for our environment or if he is just blowing smoke up our asses.
