I am honestly surprised to see Mercury, Buick and Cadillac make such a strong showing.

However, it's tough to tell excatly what these surveys represent. For example, do failed transmissions or blown head gaskets count the same as a clunky driveshaft or a creaking rear seat latch?

J.D. & Power is pretty respected in it's studies in the industry based on reliability which is usually an account for a # of problems per 100 cars and certain models do better than others even from manufacturers that have an overall shoddy line.

What alarmed me more than the fact that Mercury is ranked above Toytoa is the use of the term "multi activity vehicle", or MAV, to describe the GX470.

Whatever happened to the term SUV? Have the marketing folks decided its time to scrap "SUV" for all its negative connotations? Are we seeing the beginning of the rebranding of SUVs with another silly acronym? Scary!
