Most Efficent Speed

What is the most fuel efficent speed. For some reason I thought it was 60ish.

I drive on some long country roads to school so I'm able to go anywhere from 45-60. Which speed in that range would be best for gas milage?

I guess it would depend on your vehicle, but my 4Runner seems to really like to do about 65. However, that doesn't keep me from wanting to get there and doing around 80.

65 would be 20 miles per hour over the speed limit in some parts so that is way too much. 80 would be 35 miles per hour over :jaw drop: .

:iagree: Provided the ground is flat enough to not be locking/unlocking the converter. In flat Florida 42-44mph works good.

I believe this is correct. 66 km/h is the most efficient speed for any car I believe which is somewhere around 45 mph. Learnt this way back in college somewhere.

Thanks for the info. I've been doing 60 and getting a little over 17 MPG so I think if I slow down to around 50 I should see a better gas milage.
