Most Helpful Forum Member of 2016

Hey Dudes,

I thought it would be cool to take nominations and then create a poll we can vote on for the Most Helpful Member on the Forum for 2016.

I've never started a poll but it looks like we are limited to 15 choices. So, we can't have any more than 15 nominations. Since this is my idea, please don't nominate me. I'll keep the nominations open for 1 week ending at midnight on the 17th and then create the poll for people to vote on that will last from the 18th to midnight on Christmas Eve. I'll post who the winner is on Christmas Day.

Hey Dudes,

I thought it would be cool to take nominations and then create a poll we can vote on for the Most Helpful Member on the Forum for 2016. In addition to some recognition, I'd like to include a monetary prize for the winner as sort of a Christmas present. I was thinking anyone willing to contribute donate no more than $10 to the pot. Now, how do I collect the money so people don't think I'm trying to scam the forum out of money? I don't know. PayPal would be the easiest way to collect the money. Maybe we could send the money to a trusted moderator so nobody thinks I'm trying to fund all my recent tool purchases for the Toyota Time Show [MENTION=102606]infamousRNR[/MENTION] and I started.

Hey Tim, this is a pretty nice thread and a genuinely wonderful gesture from someone like you and [MENTION=102606]infamousRNR[/MENTION] who have contributed immensly to this site, however, if most are like me, I would reject the monetary gift.

My reward comes from the satisfaction of knowing the person I helped is 1) smarter now and able to pass it on to the next person and 2) is back to driving their rig. I don't think any of us look for or expect anything in return.

I just answer questions. Frequently the same one. (I have a bank of standard answers I can cut and paste.) I remain in awe of those who take the time to create really good DIY threads with good pics and good prose.

There are lots of great posters out there but one that stands out in my mind is [MENTION=44220]BigFishAllDay[/MENTION] with an outstanding body of work over the last few years.

I can't count the number of times someone was desperately searching Google for a wiring schematic and couldn't find one. They post here and 38.5 seconds later TheDurk posts the exact schematic needed. It's really hard in this day and age to beat Google but somehow he does it.
[MENTION=120071]mtbtim[/MENTION] While I can respect your gesture to remove yourself from the running since you stated the post it's a pretty big disservice to the voters to do so. You and [MENTION=102606]infamousRNR[/MENTION] have made a great contribution with the vids you guys have done and are continuing to do. If I learned anything from the last presidential election it's that more choices are better. lol

I'll take some time later tonight to add some others that are deserving to the list but now I'm going climbing. :eyebrows:

You're nominated. I didn't read the part about where you don't want to be nominated so I'm nominating you. Your videos are awesome for people who are new to cars/3rd gens. I've done most of the stuff you do in the videos before, but they would have been super helpful if they were there the first time around.

If you guys think I should be part of the list, then I can't be the one running the poll. Someone else will have to compile the list and make a poll for all of us to vote on. I just feel weird being part of it since I thought up the idea. There's just so many helpful people on this forum that are generous with their time and knowledge and I thought it would be a cool idea.

There's definitely different ways people have contributed. Some do really detailed write-ups like BigFishAllDay, others browse the forum on a daily basis answering questions and giving advice and some do a little of both. Regardless, it's time out of a person's schedule to help another 3rd Gen Brother out.

I have others in mind that should be on the list buy I'll hold back for now and hope somebody else nominates them.

I did WRITE all those answers (except one I stole from a BMW board on fan clutch testing). And only maybe a quarter are cut and paste FAQs.

Google can't find those schematics, except for 2002, and even that was not easy after ncttora took theirs down. They come from my paper '99 or behind the TIS paywall, and I've collected the latter on to my hard drive from members whom I have helped with understanding and fixing their issues, or just because I begged.

Hey Tim, this poll is a great idea. If you'd like to enjoy running the poll and leave yourself off the list I think you should feel free -- it's your call. You can do so knowing that your helpfulness is recognized and appreciated anyway!

Hey Dudes, I changed my mind about this idea and I'm going to close this thread. Instead, I plan on compiling a list of all members who I'd like to personally thank for their contributions to our 3rd Gen Community and I'll post it on a new thread on New Years Day. Then, others can post who they'd like to thank and we'll basically be acknowledging a whole cast of characters who've made this forum as great as it is.
