Most Useful/Enjoyable Modification/Add-on?

If you had to pick one thing you've done to your 4Runner, what would you say the most useful or enjoyable modification or add-on is? Whether it's your tires, long travel suspension, adjustable control arms, skid plates, winch, bumper, stereo, whatever. I'm curious to see what people value and enjoy in their choices.

So far, mine has been the Dobinsons long travel rear suspension!

I daily drive my 4Runner and I must say that installing seat heating elements out of a solara for $24 total from the parts yard was the best mod. I use them all the time.
 
Most useful and enjoyable mod for me has been the FJ transfer case swap. Short of a mechanical failure, I never have to worry about costly electronics failing again and have a tcase I can actually use and rely on.

Tough call but the TRD Offroad/FJ suspension, Pioneer HU with CarPlay, and sound deadening are probably top 3 for day-to-day "really glad I did that" factor.

I dig my Satoshi grill and the stance provided by Spidertrax spacers but those aren't functional mods.

A highly underrated (and relatively inexpensive) upgrade is tinting the front side windows, especially if you live in a warm climate.
 
It's not 'useful' but I think about my dual exhaust I fabricated every time I start my truck.

Still love my SCS wheels too.
 
Most useful for me would be my alpine stereo with android auto and a back up camera.
Most fun would be lift/tires.

Most useful will probably fall somewhere between the lift - 35" tire upgrade..
Most enjoyable somewhere between the modified exhaust/v8 combo and arb front/rear lockers & gears.. lol its hard to say.


Something also tells me that next month my LEAST useful but most enjoyable mod will be the '15 taco face surgery with coastal offroad front/rear bumpers... :banana:

I'll go with my winch. I don't have any friends that like overlanding/offroading, so it's usually just my wife and I going solo on the trails. Although we've never had to use the winch on ourselves (we've only used it once to recover a kid stuck in some deep mud), it's great peace of mind and makes us MUCH more comfortable doing those solo trips.

I really enjoy my backup camera. And these vehicles should have come from the factory with 33s!

I would say the agility to drive TF out of it and it wanting more.
 
Replacement speakers are the best for me. Took maybe 2 hours to do all 4 doors.

Least favorite mod is my Daystar level kit. Though it did force me to replace all the worn suspension parts, it doesn't offer a great highway experience without modified UCA. I'm going to go back to stock since I don't offroad. It does look better, but not worth it to me.

Great one that I forgot about. Doing the doors & adding the Bazooka SW from my old Xterra made a night & day difference. Stereo sounds amazing now.
 
CarPlay stereo has been great for me. I purchased my truck shortly after moving to a new city and the maps are super helpful

Mine was my FJ Cruiser wheels.

I had stock limited wheels before, and was considering running 265/70r18 P rated tires. Its a 32.6" tire, and I wouldn't need new wheels, so I was trying to convince myself it would work despite no one having tested it. Then I saw a set of 4x FJ Cruiser wheels on Facebook for 200$. Grabbed them, and instead am running 255/80r17s.

I love the way the FJ wheels look, and the 255s are the perfect size for what I do. Now I just need my bumper to get in, and to find a shop that can get a good alignment!
 
Second vote for head unit with back up camera.

Totally worth the 1 day of work. It's one of the few mods that gets used every single time I drive.
