Motor Oil in your Trail Edition

What brand are you running in your TE? Are you running a heavy weight than recommended and why?

TE gets 0W-20 just like the SR5 and Limited (and Pro). i'm running TGMO.

0W-20, Royal Purple (through a work connection/lunch and learn I got 3 cases for equivalent of <$3.50 a quart so I am working through that. I would not pay retail, while I have no doubt its fine oil its not $12/quart fine (it was something like that the last time I saw it at a parts store)

Just follow the recommendations in your manual. 0W-20 synthetic (brand is personal preference as long as it meets specs). Do a couple searches and you will find a ton of oil "discussion" on here. If you don't want to do that, then follow the above advice as it is the general consensus of the forum and what the Toyota engineers think is best for this engine.

Run the heaviest weight you can. It'll help you rev faster and keep your piston rings from letting oil into the combustion chamber. Plus you get the added benefit of creating a dry sump oil system effect when taking high G turns. But this only applies to the trail engine.

Use the recommend weight of oil. This isn't rocket science. As already stated, Royal Purple is a good quality oil, so is AMSOIL. All of my vehicle, current and past, have had AMSOIL used.

When my oil gets low I just add rocks. Puts the oil level right up to full again....
