Motorcycle Hauling

Hi all, I just purchased a 96 4Runner V6 4x4 5 spd and I pick it up tomorrow. I do a fair amount of motorcycle hauling and was wondering if this will work on a 4runner:

The actual hauler itself weighs 55 lbs and the motorcycle I'll most often haul is 350-400 lbs. So in total 400-450 lbs right on the hitch. Will the hitch on the 4runner able to handle this? I am hoping it will since the 4runner is rated to tow 5000 and usually rule of thumb in can hold 10% as tongue weight and that'd be 500lbs.

I know the 4Runner has a Class III hitch capable of 500lbs so it should work for a pretty light bike. I'd be hesitant being so close to the max weight though when you are actually driving. Imagining hitting an expansion joint on the highway and the truck bounces a little. That bike on the hitch will move around a bit as well. I'd hate to see a truck dragging a motorcycle behind them on the highway.

Btw, what kind of bike?

Thanks for the replies. I'm not too worried about the bike hopping around or jumping off the carrier, that's what good tie downs are for, can't jump around much more than it would on my trailer that has minimal suspension. Also how much the rear of the 4runner sags will be interesting, I guess it will depend how old and tired my rear suspension is. But after just looking up prices on those carriers I may hold of for a while, they cost more than my 2 bike trailer cost! Granted the trailer was used.

We'll see when spring comes around.

Oh, the bike I carry primarily is my track bike, a 99 Suzuki SV650. It is pretty light, my street bike, Yamaha FZ1 is a bit heavier and doesn't spend much time on the trailer b/c I ride it!
